You know it's not a good day when you wake up early on Sunday and have to go to work. You know it's really not a good day when you are leaving for work an you leave your house to find this little gem. After picking it up and removing the cover I got to examine the damage. Broken turn signal mirror, bent handle bars, and a dented tank. Didn't look like anything else was wrong but the dented tank is enough for me to call the insurance oompany and let them pay for the damages.

Holy bajesus Tim! Man, I'm sorry that happened. Do you really think it was the wind? Maybe some idiot kids pulling some senseless vandalism? It's just it fell over on the stand side...that takes some pretty good force. I hope everything works out in the end for you man. Wow, Sorry.

That sucks, Tim. I had that happen once with a covered bike, but it was light and had a tarp instead of a vented cover, and there were tornado like winds. Sure hope you get it fixed up quick.

That's exactly what I think it was. The police that came out to fill out the report said that it might not have been vandalism because it was raining last night. I personally think that she's an idiot that knows nothing about bikes. It takes a lot more than rain to push one over on it's stand. Besides that, you can see scrapes on the ground where the side stand dug in, if it just fell over I think it would have just fell over and not left distinct marks on the cement like it was forced over.

Exactly! It's gotta be some jerk-offs with no sense of value or respect for other people's stuff. Well, I hope it all works out. I actually went out to the garage after my first post to you and started pushing on my speedy to see how much force it would take to make me think it might go over. IT TOOK A LOT!!! No way unless you had some fierce windage last night or unless your cover acts like a sail.

That really sucks man. Sorry this happened to you. I don't know, wouldn't some jerk push it over the easy way? Not over the stand. By the same token I can't see the wind doing that either unless it was blowing very very hard.(Blows hard anyway) Mirror and indiwinker I could live with and make a cheap fix but that dented tank really hurts!

I've seen a couple of things but that was years ago and I had a lot to drink the night before
Tim, that must have been a sickener mate. I hope that it all works out well and you get it back on the road soon.
Errrr I suppose that Arsenal beating Man Utd on Saturday at least did give you one good smile this weekend.

I just went out to my bike to take the license plate off, see, I'm planing a major overhaul this winter and one of my projects is making a side mount license plate holder. Just as I was getting ready to pull the plate off I noticed that the right side of the license was bent in, bent in to just about the right size and shape o a truck bumper. It's starting to look like he stupid kids that vandalized my bike aren't kids at all. Instead the person in question might have been a cowardly F-ing adult who couldn't own up to what they did. F-ers!

That makes much more sense now, no comfort but at least now you know what happened. Could have been some drunk or just some clown being careless. Worst would be someone who just wanted to knock it over. On the bright side, if someone hit it with a truck be thankful it wasn't worse.

I have a friend who came out from a bar to see his bike like that. Someone backed into it leaving and then just drove off Cost him 1200 bucks to get the damage fixed

Well, the one good thing about it is that I was talking to the insurance company and they said that if it was vandalism they would pay to fix the damage but since there's no real proof that it was someone else's fault my insurance would probably go up. Since there's evidence that someone caused the damage I might end up getting the deductible waived and keep my premiums the same.

So after finding that dent in my license plate I got the idea to look on my cover as well and found a rip right where the license plate was. Finding all this evidence of a vehicle hitting my bike and not being satisfied by the original police report I decide to give another call to the police so I could explain to them what I found. After explaining the situation on the phone they said another officer would be out shortly. The supervisor was he one who showed up. After he got there I explained what happened, showed him the pictures and then I showed him everything that I found, he then asked me what I did for a living and after telling him that I was in the military he ask if I ever thought about being a police officer. After looking everything over he called back to the station and had a lengthy conversation with whoever he was talking to about how displeased he was that the things I found weren't caught by the original officer who came to the scene and that she have to come out and do a second report to amend the first one, also that he'd have to have a discussion with her immediately after she got done with her second report about her substandard police work. I still don't know who did it, but the end result is that the police report says that after investigation, the accident was the result of a hit and run which means that by law my insurance company has to fix the damages and they cannot raise my premiums as a result. That's good news to me

I've had some seriously nice cars damaged by hit and run bstards while they were parked. Never a bike though. Sorry to see this happen.

This should be covered under the uninsured motorist portion of your auto insurance policy. You shouldn’t have to pay your deductable and your rates don’t go up. All policies and states vary but that’s how my policy works.

Well, got the bike to the shop and had the estimate done, $2115...
Geico didn't give me a had time at all, in fact I already have a check for the entire amount in hand. Now let's hope the repair shop doesn't jerk me around...

Not that it will make you feel any better, but
1. your car could have been parked next to it as it (got) tipped over...
or
2. you could have been sitting on it when it happened...
or
3. I don't really HAVE a "3." I just thought it would be better than only having 2.
Hope that it all works out well for you in the end.

Glad to hear Geico, stepped up. That's were my bikes are insured, but have yet to make a claim.
I figure, if anything happened to the BA, I'd just bob it.

Unisured motorist policy only covers you IF you know who hit you. NOT hit and run. My van was sideswiped and my insurance wouldn't pay

Jack, shouldn't that still be covered under your comprehensive coverage? I had my car backed into while parked on the street and it was covered. I didn't discover it until the day after it happened.

My dad is an insurance agent, and he's mine (works out to my benefit). I've been involved in a hit and run before, and he tried to file it as uninsured motorist, but the company wouldn't accept it. Comprehension is the most likely outcome. Comp happens due to natural causes not caused by the driver. Deer walks out in front of you what do you do? Hit the deer its comp, swerve to miss and hit the ditch or tree its collision and out of pocket money to pay deductable. Hit and run is a cause happening to you, and you're not at fault. Therefore comprehension is in order.
