Depressed right now. I just washed my bike, and changed the oil. Looking pretty good I thought; Then I did a dumb thing. I let the bike down off the jack. Wait, did I put the side stand down? Nope! Broke the clutch lever, my new Kuryakan grip, my tailight chrome, and my new Vmax mirror, and bent the mirror stalk.

Ouch. I always leave the stand down when its on the jack. I'm sure you will from now on, too.

It was down originally, but was in my way when removing the drain plug. Really dumb!

Yeah, that sucks. I guess from now on you will also be working from the right hand side of the bike? Did you have straps on the lift over the bike?

This where the real stupidity comes in. I had just removed the strap to let the bike down.
It went down!!

I'll bet she quit going off on what ever it was she was going off on, and probably just disappeared, didn't she?

You guys use a pan? Doesn't that keep it from filtering through the earth, being purified as it travels through the soil and rocks before entering the water table - pretty thoughtless IMO!
Don't feel so badly about the dropped bike. I once spent an entire day finely detailing a car I'd bought new and was only about 3 mo. old, only to back the thing into a tree immediately upon completion and firmly place the rear bumper about mid-trunk. It was much uglier than a couple of bent pieces - perhaps a whole bunch more dumb, too.

That's one of the things that I really like about this site. Just about the time that I start feeling guilty about some of my practices, I read you guys and I feel a whole lot better!

We'll need confirmation from 'The Rev', but I think there's something in the Good Book about ashes to ashes, crude to crude - or something like that...
By the way - it works wonders in streams, lakes, and even the kiddie pool in the back yard in keeping the mosquito population at bay. When you use it in a 'swimming' environment, it also doubles as a sun screen having about a 30 rating if its dark enough.

Oh!!! So NOW you come up with all of these "good ideas" and how to spin this to the public, huh Barry?!
Well, I'm sure if any of the folks at Exxon-Mobil are readin' this right now, they're probably wondering where the heck YOU WERE AT when THEY NEEDED YA back when the Valdez had a little incident along the Alaskan shoreline, ol' buddy!!!
(sounds a little "day late and a dollar short" to ME here, dude!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

my stupid move of the day was forgetting to take my keys out of the bike this morning. went to lock the door when i was leaving work, and realized.... "CRAP@!" i was thinking 'please please please please please let my bike be there, please please please please please let my keys be in it!'. bike was there, keys were in it, but i'd left it in the on position, so the battery was completely dead...so, walk home (gf is out of town), get the car, come back, pull the bags off the bike, lock the steering, and wait till morning to buy a charger. i just have to hope nobody lifts the bike overnight. got my fingers crossed.

Tim, couldn't roll the bike into a secure place or chain it up somewhere?

thankfully, bike was still there. however, i did get to go through the embarassment of pulling out tools and removing the battery right there in the parking lot to take inside to charge on my brand spanking new charger. wish i'da known it was a 12V battery (i thought it was 6 for some reason), because i'da saved money. instead, i bought a 6/12 charger. oh well. perhaps the universe thinks i need one...

I brought my 23 year old F 150 to one of those chain oil change joints for which I have a discount card. I waited 30 mins and went to the truck. Popped the hood and checked the oil level. NONE! Looked under the truck No Filter?
I grabbed the manager and asked him to check the oil leve and the filter and he at first refused and told me to drive out as it had just been finished.
I insisted that he check himself and he did. He about had a heart attack. The guy was devestated and embarassed. I did not make a big thing of it but I will warn anybody.....always check you oil before you drive off!
