With all talk of NEW Thunderbird coming... I ran across older 2001 Thunderbirds for sale. Seeing number of them low mileage for about $4600 on eBay, etc... Anyone know enough about them - sound like a good deal? Seems like good deal for 3-cyl 896cc 69bhp (stock) bike. Any negatives?

Think about parts in the future.

I have a friend with an 01 legend and almost all parts come from England..slow-slower..The fire at the plant does not help issues as they lost most vin numbers,etc..sometimes the wrong part comes..clutch issue and ignitor issue this year..who knows what in the future.
life is good..I am retired..sold my America in 2008,bought a Rocket and sold that in 3/2013 and now own a new Triumph Bonneville T-100

they are a gauranteed classic of the future, and parts are not a problem here, as far as I know.

Great bikes.. parts are still available from Triumph (and E-Bay). I have a Legend, kind of a cross between a T-Bird and T-Bird Sport... same bike basically. Runs great, handles great, looks good.
Drawbacks? Not the best of engineering when it comes to the Starter Drive.. they are known to fail and you have to remove the engine and split the case to get to it.

I sold mine for $3500 and it lasted about 10 min on Craigslist,I had the 98 model that had the starter problems but got it fixed once I started hearing a loud rattle. But I wouldnt be scared to buy another they are fantastic bikes..
