Has anybody tried cutting off the last 10 inches of their stock exhaust in a slash cut and then removing the baffles???

I cut the tapered part off mine and took all the baffles out and love the loud deep sound. Mine are not slash cut though, they are cannon style. I also cut off and blocked my crossover for the sound. If you cut or gut your pipes you will need to re-jet for the less restrictive exhaust.

What prevents the cut edges from rusting?

Thanks for the info; I'd like to do the same thing before I cough up mega bucks for new pipes. I'll keep the pipes stock though untill it's had the first service.
Only one oil leak... not bad for a British bike!

Are you sure it's oil and not the packing grease oozing out? Mine hasn't leaked a drop since I bought it last July.

Thanks Lazyrider, you could be right about that, it does seem rather thin for engine oil. I have the same bike as you, just had it for two days and it rained both days so only got 40Ks up so far between the showers. Can't wait for the summer days.
Cheers Tezza

Keep a close eye on the oil level (sightglass) and maybe also the brake fluid reservoirs for the next few weeks. I'd take the bike to the dealer if a routine inspection doesn't reveal the source - oil drain plug, fill plug, rocker cover, etc. Best to let them confirm that it's temporary and harmless than to risk an unexpected loss of oil. Here's a thread about Cosmoline on that "other" forum...
