RPM increase at full right-turn lock

While I'm backing into a parking spot with the engine running, and turn to the right, when it is almost to the full right lock point, the RPMs increase. At first I thought I was fumbling around with my hand on the throttle, but ruled that out already. Any ideas what I should look for? Before I pull the tank, I was hoping someone had already run into this and had a suggestion. Thanks in advance!

Something funky going on with the throttle cables maybe, they might actually be applying torque to the throttle shaft when you bring the bar over. Don't know quite how that'd happen though.

It is your throttle cable tightening. Did you make any mods lately (Jim's Spacers, new bars, etc.)?
The cables are not routed correctly (IMO) from the factory. They route from the carbs along the left side of the backbone, to the left side of the neck and then up to the control.
It is a relatively easy job to remove the tank, remove either side of the throttle cables and reroute then along the right side of the backbone, right side of the neck and up to the controls...
You will have plenty of cable then and it will never throttle up on full right lock again.

I had the same thing happen to me at a gas station as I was maneuvering around cars at the pump. Almost dropped it and very embarassing. Throttle cable had come out of the wire loop on the triple tree and was getting stretched at full lock. I clipped the ends of the loops together to prevent this from happening again.

Mine does that too. Only noticing it now since I got rid of the oil cooler which, along with the Ma's signal bar, was preventing rull right lock for me. I plan on yanking the tank and re-routing the cables. Also, I removed my wire loop a long time ago, so that might have something to do with it...

I had the same problem when I originally installed Jim's Spacers on my 03 TA. It was definitely caused by the cables being too tight on a full right turn. I was able to fix it rather simply. On the left side of the frame neck there is a large lump of wiring harness. My cables originally ran below that lump. I positioned them above the lump and it gave them enough slack to eliminate the problem. You might try that first...

Even if you haven't changed anything in that area, check the cables. The handlebars are attached during dealer setup and the might have routed the cables wrong.

Thanks for the great suggestions! I'm going to check the loop on the triple tree first, then check where it runs by the electrical wiring, then ... wait, first thing is a beer, then look at it. I haven't changed anything lately and it just started happening a couple of weeks ago, with 18K miles. More information after this weekend's tinkering!

Your throttle cables are certainly too tight. For whatever reason. Heck a late dealer of mine had twisted the cables before giving me my ride back. Morons.
Simply bring the handlebars to full right lock while the bike is not running. Observe the throttle and you'll see that the cable is too tight. Look for twisted cables or too tight cables from possible mods made per members discussions above. You can adjust the cable at the handlebar housing, or drastically at the carbs. Thinking 'I have tiny fingers' over and over again will get your hands in that carb area if needed. Or remove the tank...
