Had my america since april, ran smooth, no problems. Then last thursday it all came to an end when the driver of a Nissan Cabstar decided not to use his brakes! I was riding on the M27, minding my own business, braking to come off the next junction. Imagine my surprise when i looked in my mirrors to see that nice white van coming straight for me. Luckily got away with cuts and bruises, but doesnt look too good for the bike, could be terminal. If thats the case, it'll be the end of the america story for me as i'm not a fan of the new ones and think i'll be purchasing a sports bike. Thanks to all the guys who have given me advice on exhausts, rejetting and sprockets. Maybe one day i'll find myself on the new thunderbird, only time will tell. Stu

Hey sorry to hear that Stu, I would suggest what Eric has pointed out. The new ones are not that bad to be honest, as I have the EFI speedy...

Dunno what's worse, having your america totalled, or being made to ride the HD. Glad you're ok mate.

Glad you came out of it with all your parts. Good luck in the bike repair/replacement adventure.

That sucks Stuart! Don't forget to consider other Triumphs. The Tiger sure is a fun bike.

Glad to hear that you are OK. That really sucks about the bike. Since you dont really like the new ones, maybe keep your eyes out for a used America or if you are set on a sport bike the 675 is nice or maybe even a Street Triple.

I've had a go on the new 675 Soren, its a beauty, but not sure about going for a pure supersport bike.

Sorry to hear this.
Can't you find another Carbed America to put as you like...? Rather than go plastic?

Thats sucks, man. 6 months is to short of a time to love one of these machines.

Too bad you aren't closer to me, my friend is going to be selling his 02 or 03 TA with custom paint and a few other mods. About 13,000 miles I think. He can't ride it where he is now. Probably sell it at what I think is a good price for what he has but shipping over seas would kill the deal.

I agree. There are a lot of good pre-owned ones out there. Don't give up on Triumphs, they have some good choises. Glad to hear you came out ok. Like I said in another post, there have been to many "Rider Down" posts lately. Please ride safe all, don't want to lose any of ya!
