Our beautiful state of Arizona has done yet another bullsh**** thing to pi-- everybody off.It's another money making scam for the communistic like gov. to do.Photo-radar!!! Yes there are some good things about it in someones eyes.It makes money for the state,and makes money for the state,etc.Driving home tonight from a service call in my work truck west bound,driving into the sun I could not even see the speedo yet alone a freakin photo-radar.They are putting these cameras all over the Phoenix area on the freeways,even when heading west out of town out by my place they got them.I drive 15 miles to work and there are 3 of them on I-10 in that amount of roadway.FREAKIN Nuts!!! They want to make money I still say outlaw cell phones(save lives!)then use the photo cameras at the stoplights there at and send those people at lights on there cell phones in the operators seat a $400 ticket.They would make more than enough money for there freakin political BS.Buy the way I did not get a ticket,or at least I don't think so,I'll find out in a few days in the mail I guess  .So if your future rides involve Arizona beware they're watching you  .They want to send everybody a speedaward.

Mate, Aus is lousy with them.  Victoria and New South Wales especially. I heard some bloke in England was selling a hinged number plate system attached to a choke cable. He pushed the plate up when he wanted to go fast and underneath was written 4Q.

Ahem totally illegal to tamper with your number plate in the UK of course but a friend who shall remain nameless has a neat drop down number plate. It has a small hinge at the bottom and drops at the flick of a switch the wind catches the plate pulls it down. To restore said plate push switch and a small motor from a toy car turns a lovey screw thingamyjig and returns number plate to normal position. James Bond eat yer heart out.

Not only do we have photo radar here, but we also have red light cameras. I think they are dangerous. When those things get a picture of you, you know they have because of the flash. The fash is absolutley blinding. But I guess that's even better for the government, they can get you for speeding then for reckless driving while you cant see.

Yet Swindon Borough Council is voting next week on pulling out of the local Safety Camera Partnership - the body that operates the speed cameras. Maybe I'm being cynical, but it coincides a change in who the fines are paid to now.....ie not the local council anymore. Quote:

The council said the money spent on cameras could be spent on local safety measures instead.

Just wait untill you get the average speed cameras with number plate recognition
( reason everybody has to have legal plates)
They time you between two points miles apart.

We already have them but they ignored that bikes only have plates at the back of the bike and the Cameras all face the front catching number plate and driver to try and prevent the "It wisne me" excuse.
Like the old saying "Gambling is a tax on the stupid" we should now have a new one "driving is a tax on the workers" If you arent being screwed at the pumps with tax they are screwing you with speeding, parking, road tax, MOT charges the list goes on and on.

As far as i'm aware the cameras around Swindon hav'nt been used for months. Been thru a few a bit over the limit, say 10- 15 mph, no flash no ticket.

We have the same thing here. Occasionally they'll also take pics across the road so they get traffic in both directions but that's rare. The West Australian gov't twigged to the fact that they were missing out on ripping off bikers and tried to reinstate front number plates on bikes. When it was pointed out that they were removed 40 odd years ago to avoid slicing people open if you ran into them they suggested stick-on lettering. Uhhh yeah, and just where are you going to stick it? (I have a few suggestions on where they can stick their cameras though  )

I know of a bloke that paints all his rego plates with clear nail varnish( bout 3 coats) & swears by it.

h'rmphh, If all you scofflaws & ne-er do-wells would observe the posted speed limits you wouldn't have any cause for concern.  I sped once on 2 wheels in 1976, but was on a long down grade with a stiff wind at my back. jh

Absolutely true that the camera's only catch you if you're breaking the law. However, it is definately a step towards big brother. The slippery slope comes to mind here. Cameras to catch you speeding, then cameras to catch you doing anything at all if it is illegal, and how many things are illegal? Some more important than others. Bottom line, although video survelience can be a very usefull tool to catch "criminals", the invasion of privacy and potential for abuse is not worth the possible and very PROBABLE abuse of such power.

Actually I was being face..,, faceti.., making stuff up  . We in Montana did alright minding our business with our "reasonable & prudent" speed limits for years, until the federal gov't threatened to withhold funding unless we installed a numeric upper limit. I haven't always agreed with our current governor, but was happy when the Feds wanted to mandate a Federal ID system following 9/11 and he said, "No our photo ID state driver's license is enough".
Granted as people continually move to the "Last, Best Place" from places across the horizon we seem to be slowly becoming "Everytown USA" as they bring their ideas, policies, rules, expectations with them

Absolutely untrue! These devices are as prone to malfunction, inaccuracy and intermittant defects as any other mechanism. The real crime occurs when courts view and act on the printouts as incontrovertible proof.
