So I ride across Florida on a regular basis, and usually stay away from the I-road. Twice this last weekend, I needed to do quick evasive manuvers to keep from a head-on with drivers who had both hands at the 12 o'clock position.... Yup @#$@#$%% texters! I see more of this occuring and it needs to STOP! I'd prefer to turn around and chase them down to put their cell phone in a different position/place, but if anyone else has a better idea, I'd like to hear it!

later, Tom.

But, what do I know?

I agree , cell phone use is bad enough but to text the person has to take their eyes totally off the road to read them.

I see this on a regular basis, even in Idaho! Usually an under 30 girl.

I've luckily avoided two t-bones from texters as they sailed right through the intersection texting their BFF so it's on my list of pet peeves. Don't know how you'll stop it though until cell jammers are required equipment on vehicles...that's the only way I can think you could force folks to stop to use mobiles...

I was nearly clipped last night by a girl texting as she made a right hand turn in front of me. Oblivious to oncoming traffic. Since I was not in the "G" ride I could not pull her over and give her a ticket. They tried to issue us phones/belt computers a few months back so we could text and email but I said I couldnt use it unless they issued a teenager with it.

Once a week I commute from Richmond to Chesapeake on I64. Last week on the way back to Richmond in the pouring rain (I'm in cage)come upon a guy in the passing lane going 50 in a 65 and was reading a book and did not notice he had traffic backed up for a 1/4 mile or so. Seeing people reading on this part of I64 is common. Usually business people reading information (papers stapled together) before going to a meeting that they should have read the night before. This is the reason I do not make that commute on the bike. I would like to stay alive for a while and enjoy the bike rides when I can.

Nope, I can't think of a better idea! And I'd help you hold them.

The engineer who caused the big train wreck in CA recently sent a text message at about the time he passed the redlight that he ran. They should make cars that can't be driven unless both thumbs are inserted into holes in the steering wheel.

Or, maybe install a version of the breatholizer control that is required on some drunk drivers cars that stops the car if it detects the carrier wave from a cell phone in the car.

Remeber boys and girls this is America.Nothing will be done about this until,Some teeny bopper wipes out a bout 30 people on the freeway. Then a new meaningless law will be passed. That most people will ignore and police accross the
country will not enforce....happy motoring.

We'll have to wait for texting legislation until after the friend or family member of a politician gets killed. We have an intersection in my home town that has been the scene of many fatalities. My agency lobbied for years to get a signal at the intersection to no avail. Two months after a state senator's relative was injured in an accident there, we got the signal. No fatalities since.
