If you are interested in having a Chrome Crankcase Breather then you might want to check this out. I am sure someone else out there makes them, I just haven't seen any yet.

Is the BA crankcase vented to atmosphere?

I was told by my local dealer that the crankcase vents into the airbox(2006). I ended up with a little oil in the bottom of the airbox once after a long trip and the mechanic said that was blowout from the crankcase breather possibly due to over filling the crankcase, which I don't think I did. I've never gotten what I thought was a satisfactory answer.

Hopefully someone who knows more than I do can answer this.

A little oil in the air box would be from the breather. Maybe from over filling, maybe not. You can get a small amount of oil vapor out of the stock breather configuration that can eventually build up.

Some are vented to the atmosphere stock are not. If you move to individual pods then, yes , it is vented to atmosphere with a small filter. If everything is stock then it's vented to the air box.

If you have the stock set-up, is there any advantage to pulling it off the air box and using one of these filters instead? Where would you put it, I think it would look rather odd?

I don't see any advantage, in fact I see 1 possible disadvantage. The possible disadvantage would be you lose the possible vacuum in the air box helping with venting. I have seen guys (did it myself but not on my bike) bolt the crank vent filter to one of the top sprocket cover bolts. I have mine under my seat where the air box used to be.

I think I heard that for 2009 the crankcase has a charcoal canister. Is that correct?
