2007 America 42 pilot-130 main Air box hole sawed out, Uni-Filter hole sawed 3 baffles deep removed on stock tapered silencer .5 mm shim Carbs balanced Manual says idle is 1000 rpm I'm at 1200 rpm(as per Triumph added tach) When i blip the throttle,,,,sometimes I get hesitation, then pop out the exhaust. Sometimes I get pop back to carb. I've been adjusting PMS between 2 to 3 turns out and cannot seem to eliminate. If I bump up the rpm's to 1400,,i have no problems,,,none. I like the "presence" it has at low rpm's(1000 rpm would be ideal) any ideas what I'm not seeing Tanks,,,Les

per teh Triumph tack im at about 1000...maybe 1100 at times. No issues unless shes not warmed up. When that is the case I get the sysmptoms you described. Oh...and before the carbs were balanced it would do it more often.

Given the changes you've made to the intake system, you should probably try a larger pilot jet.

Mine currently idles @ 1100 when warm.
When you say hesitation, do you mean that it hangs up momentarily when you roll off the blip & then settles down, or it doesn't immediately respond to the blip at roll on?
Is the "popping" more of a "bang" type "backfire", or is it decel-type popping?
It makes a difference.

Right at about 1050 on my tach. Seems to be the happiest there.

I bump it up to about 1200 when cold. Drop down to 1000 after 10 minutes.

Engine is warmed up,,,,, Crank 1/4 throttle(blip)and get a backfire(only one and then back to idle). As above,,,sometimes an intake fire. Everythings fine with continuous rythmic "blips",,,it's always there.
The reason I'm getting picky is,,, because of emergency acceleration,,,I need to know its there when i need it! No hesitation!
thanks for all the help,,,everyone
I'm going to re-check my carb balance,,,, And my PMS,,,
Found out this morning there is a dynomometer 10 miles away from me,,,,,
Will post results(New Post(2007 America Dyno Results)),,,asking for help where to improve,,,,,THANK YOU
Les

That sounds like a legitimate issue somewhere, not just the need for a larger pilot. Once it's warmed up, my bike never stumbles and never fails to respond sharply to a throttle blip. It only backfires occasionally during starting, and decel popping is minimal and subdued. Maybe the dyno run will tell you something.

I have an 07 SM. Once I figured out how to turn down the engine idle I was happier. It was set by the Stealer at about 2200 RPM. Once I get it warmed up (about a mile of slow running with choke out a mite) I push in the choke knob and I have set the idle to run at about 1100 rpm. Any slower and I get a backfire when I accelerate. I do notice that after the engine is really warm after a couple of miles or so the idle sneaks up a mite to about 1500 rpm's or so.
If it ain't broke don't fix it was something my dad usta say.

You don't mention if you've removed the AI or not. If so, take the corrugated-looking hose and connect it to the 2 vacuum fittings, 1 on each carb. Or on the 2 closer to the engine. It helps smooth out the idle somewhat....

Dyno'd the bike yesterday,,,found the tach off by 400 rpm's,,, 1400 is actually 1000 rpm's,,,,,,, It has no problems with back-fire or front fire at 1000 rpm. Is there a way to re-calibrate my tach??? I did not notice anything external for adjustments. thanks,,,les Will be posting Dyno results(2007 America Dyno Results) and need help

When warm, my bike idles below 1000 rpm with no problems. In fact it will tick over so low you almost swear it should stall. Not sure how accurate my tach is since the bike seems to cut out on overspeed at an indicated 7000-7200 rpm - should be close? It doesn't backfire when you blip the throttle but it will misfire the odd time if you blip too fast. Never does it when accelerating from a stop though.

My bike ides at about 1500, I was wondering if that was high. Sounds high to me. Now I wonder if the tach is accurate.

1500 would be quite high. Try dropping down to 1100 or so and see if the engine runs. If it chokes and quits, your tach is probably reading high.
