It is so nice to see so many other sm/am (sounds kinda kinky) owners. My first real ride, from San Diego back home to Bremerton WA. Cramp in calf, wrists sore from death grip through LA traffic. Put Rivco pullbacks on, had the levers bent or rather unbended, new exhaust, switched out big plank-o-plywood screen to summer screen, and Cortech bags (which don't work that well with the custom Rich's seat) . First time no pain after a few miles. Rocket Motorcycles in San Diego cheers "k'ching" when I walk in the door. Short-armed people with stubby index fingers (and other women), the Speedmaster was not designed with you in mind. But I like the look and feel and total un-Harley-ness so much!. Any suggestions for a bottle of smear free windscreen/visor cleaner to keep handy on the road? -surprised how dirty it got in a couple of gas stops, and hazy in the late afternoon sun. Antonia, copper not iron butt, trepidatiously anticipating Hwy 1 tomorrow.

It will be iron by the time you reach Bremerton. Are you on the stock seat? I am, and am working on getting it taken care of. My but goes numb after the first 100 miles or so. Good luck, have fun and ride safe. Take pics and let us see your journey. -Brent

Heck, my butt gets numb just sitting at this computer. Seats may help one way or the other but getting to see and meet this country on the road is worth the pain. I am by no means a globalist but from the travels I have done and the people I have met elsewhere in my travels we are all made of the same stuff. Amazes me sometimes how much discomfort I will endure to see and meet on the journey. Good luck and enjoy. As for the bike do what you gotta do to make it yours and comfortable for the way you ride.
Ride On!

Bummer living in the cold. There are lots of advice on what to do about a sore butt, mine is simple. Try wearing sweat pants under your jeans. Helps me a lot. (sweat shorts in the summer)Ride on!

Somehow that just doesn't sound comfortable...temperature-wise. I can see where the tush could benefit from the added comfort, but seems one would melt away from the added clothing layer. All feel free to pipe in on their experience with this. Inquiring rumps need to know.

That would be Plexus. Found in any motosickle shop. Or use a wet paper towel. followed by a dry paper towel.

My long rides on the Speedy are helped by two things.
I use the beads for my seat, makes a world of difference. Got mine from beadrider.com but you can also pick them up at Walmart for cars. Just cut it down to size.
The other easy fix is to hook your heels back on the passenger pegs (sort of the jocky position). Takes all the pressure of the backside for awhile. I also have the floorboards so I tend to vary my position alot and the miles just keep racking up.
Give me a shout when back in town, always looking for a riding partner.
