So last night I am at the dog park and this "older" woman walks up to me and says, "That's a great shirt." (I'm wearing my local Triumph dealer shirt) I smile and thank her. She then proceeds to tell me about her father owning a Triumph way back when, blah, blah, blah...and she ends with but then he got a Harley, of course. Like, someday when I grow up, I'll get a Harley, because that is the only real bike. She continues back handed complimenting me until, I finally decide I can't take it and grab my dog and go. She didn't get under my skin until about the third time, her story would end with some sort of, when you get a Harley. like I wouldn't really know what motorcycling was all about until then. I guess there is no point here, she wasn't going to listen to me anyway, I'm just blowing off some steam.

I have ridden Triumph most of my life. Had other bikes too but almost always a Triumph or 2 in the collection. Only bike I can say I still own every one I ever had, I have never sold any Triumph I got my hands on. I had a Pan, sold it, several jap bikes sold , traded, or scrapped them. Rode a few HDs here and there that belonged to friends and always was happy to get back on my Triumph. When ever we went anywhere it was always my Triumph that got the attention. It is still that way with my new Triumph. I would trade my Triumph for a HD but only so I could sell it for a profit and buy another Triumph and have some cash left over.

I look at it this way. Hardleys are so common around here, they practically outnumber the jap stuff. When a woman prefers a Hardly, nowadays, it's just another women looking to keep up with the rest of the "Jones/cool crowd". And there are a lot of them. But, take a woman who appreciates being cool AND different, (like our very own Gina, and others) now THERE you have a women who is above the ordinary fray.

oooohhhh I'm all embarrassed now...
But Triumphs and British Bikes are in my genes. My dad has always had Triumphs. My grandad (mum's dad) had a Vincent and my mum's first was a James so what else was I supposed to get???
However I went through the 'wanting a Harley' phase when I was 11. When the first Triumph dealer opened opposite my school I got a poster of a Trident. I was 15 or 16. (It's the same dealer I rave about now I have my Americas. Seems they've always been good to me!) Guess I'm saying I grew out of the Harley' phase .

It is kinda of funny alot of the Hardly people do not want to talk to you. They look at your bike from a distance most the time.I had one guy a few months ago go on about how him and his brother both use to love there Triumphs years ago.He kept looking at my bike at that gas statiion.I finally said "you can go ahead and sit on it if you want and see how it feels." He would not answer me again and he did NOT sit on it.His wife who was riding her own Hardly gave him a dirty look like she would cut off his HD balls if he got on it.I run into the same kind of bull from some of Jap bike riders on some rides.Yeah my Speedmaster isn't as fast, blah, blah, blah, but I really don't care.It stays with some of the sport bikes through the turns pretty good for a so called cruiser. To me it's a bike.If you do not like it to freakin bad,I like it and I enjoy it and NO it is not a Hardly Davidson or a missle..

They are all jealous that we got our bikes for half the price and aren't required to wear Triumph branded boots, jeans, underwear, shirts, helmets, and gloves.

We are just over run with Hardly folks right now in the Reno area. It is the annual Hardly convention "Street Vibrations." They just look like the same bike over and over again. Not to mention all of the lemmings in thier HD logo wear. The only bike I have seen in the past few days, besides a Bonneville, that I thought was different was a new Indian. It looked great, but I would never pay for a Hardly, I am certainly not going to put down 30k for an Indian.
