My local Sheriff's Department has those MPH trailers all over town. My speedo has always read 5mph slow at city speeds based on these devices. But in the past 3 weeks, it's been reading SPOT ON! Anybody know of a reason a speedo should suddenly start to read slower? If anything, as the front tire wears, it should read faster. I think 'ol Mr LEO has come up with a new strategy to slow people down.

I have a plausible solution to this anomaly . For the device to work properly , the radar waves must reflect back to the sender and a calculation is made of the delay , thus the relative speed . In the case of the America or Speedmaster , there has been a sub-wave of some dispute , some geeks call it the Geezer Sub-Wave , or GSW . In theory , the emitted wave remains on the surface of the target a nanosecond or so longer , called the "ogling effect" . ( Similar to the ogling gaze of geezers crawling over the bike ). Sounds good to me .

Wade makes an excellet point here. The GSW is excacerbated when the Triumph is ridden by a geezer. SteveB

Ooooh oooh oooh yeah , ya get a nice shiny one with a geezer at the helm on a nice day and that enigmatic GSW almost never gets back to the sender . May not even display a speed at all .
But that STILL doesn't explain the SPEEDO reading . I'll have a Peyote Coffee and get back to ya on THAT one .

Have you change the front tire recently?

I think that each machine reads different from the next for some reason and I have noticed mine to be dead on in town but 7 mph off at speeds of 65 and above.

No, the front has about 5000mi on it. As I said in the original post, if anything, as a tire wears, the speedo should read higher as it's smaller diameter has to spin faster for any given speed.
And the speeds involved are the same, city riding, 25-50mph. I figure it's got to be an idea to slow traffic down.
I'm guilty of using similar tactics: The best way to get a Spanish girl to a movie on time is to say a 7 o'clock show starts at 6:30. Seventeen years of marriage and it still works every time.

Good one. We have an Indian friend and we always tell her something is one day and 2 hours earlier than it really is. 6:00 dinner party Saturday - we say about 4:00 on Friday because she always remembers the next day she that she forgot about it and calls and then we say, "no, it's today at 4" and she shows up at 6.
