Just got an e-mail from K&N, and there is now a Filter specifically for the America/Speedmaster (with stock airbox, not Freaked)!!!! The Part Number is TB-8002. Price is $55 from K&N Website. Think I'll stick with my Uni-filter for now since I have it, but for you who still have the stock filter, you now have 2 choices (again, not including the Freak).

Do these have a LOT more airfolw? Would my Tpipe equipped 05' speedy with snorkel removed and 130 main jets (in soon) likely need a bigger main or pilot too? And i take it these just drop in as with the stock filter?

So Brent, I've done the "holes in the bottom of the airbox" mod. How will this effect the use of this filter?

OK now I need help. I was logging on to ask who has the best price on the Freak, when I see this posting. What is the best method for the best performance? Freak? Just the filters? Would some wise man from above care to share their knowledge?
Have fun!

iknowjohnny you almost never need to change the pilot. I have the freak , 162 mains and wide open pipes , and I still use the stock pilots. too rich at idle will foul the plugs in stop and go traffic. and may cause a stumble just off idle. just a bit lean on idle will give you a crisper throttle responce just off idle.

You can get great performance without the freak. I still thing the freak is the best , but is the most money. Just modding the airbox, jetting the carbs and using a high flow filter will give you great hp gains. remove all 3 snorkles , use a high flow filter , better pipes(your choice) and jet the carbs and you could get over 55 hp at the rear wheel.

There are 3 of them?! Where are the other 2 besides the one at the top of the filter under the seat?

Big one on top of the air filter and then the two smaller ones leading into the intake.

Maybe i'm missing something, but i don't understand how there can be any other snorkels. The snorkel covers the OPEN end of the air filter. There are no other places for air to enter where the air would be filtered unless there was more than one air filter! Someone explain this please.

Would't you know they would come out with a filter after I'v already freaked mine, anyways. Johnny not all the air boxes have more than one snorkel. Mine did not. Some appartenly have internal snorkels that lead to the carbs.

But how can these be filtered when the only opening to the inside of the filter where dirty air goes to be filtered is the top opening where the snorkel is? See what i'm saying? Any other air inlet would have to go without filtering.

The internal snorkels that lead to the carbs apparently obstruct airflow enough to rob a few horsepower. Nothing to do with filtering, just effecient airflow. Most of these type of items in factory air intake systems is to quiet the intake noise (at least on cars they are built that way). You have to really reach far in towards the carbs to grab the internal snorkels. Mine are stored in my OEM parts box up in the attic, or I'd snap a photo.

Will removing them help much? Also, how about the restrictor plate? Much benefit there? (assuming jetting is of course done to match to any increase)

my 03 speedy doesn't have the internal snorkles. if you put your hand forward in the airbox after pulling out the filter and feel no snorkles, you don't have them.

There is the big one feeding into the filter. There are 2 smaller ones inside the airbox in front of the air filter leading forward toward the carburettors. BUT, some Speedmasters came without the inner two.

I've installed the Freak and twin K&Ns a ways back and am glad I did. Not real crazy about the airbox, but am gald to see K&N finally made a filter for it. I'm not so sure all the mods on the airbox are really doing more than butchering the box. I know the Freak kit made a big difference.
