I've got the pod filters on order, and need some custom fabrication help. What did you do to fill the hole where the airbox connected to the fender? I don't want to cut up my airbox cuz I would like to sell it. Could I scrounge up a piece of plastic to fill in there? Cut it to fit, and just bolt it on? I was thinking maybe cutting off a piece from a 55 gallon drum that was black. Any other suggestions would be nice to hear, since I don't have a 55 gallon drum laying around for the moment.
Thanks in advance, Aaron

A bit of heavy plastic would do the job. If you are inclined to such, you can cut the fender at the top of the hole, rotate it forward and redrill the mounting holes. Nearly instant bobber....

Anything you bolt to extend the fender down will need to have a bend at the top at the very least so it hangs down where you want it.

So its sounding like something that has a little better "workability" such as steel sheeting. Capable of bending, trimming, and painting to fit and match. Not a bad deal.

You can do it with plastic too just heat the area to be bent and then clamp or hold it in place until it cools. Steel is easier though.

Thanks guys. I just couldn't fathom spending $300+ for a piece of preformed plastic and 2 k&n air filters. No offense to Brent because it looks like a sweet unbolt and bolt on installation.

It is on the high side but, mine was all metal except for the little tool case which is worthless and got thrown away. I also wanted to retain the cheese graters and this solution worked best for me. YRMV

Mine was all metal too but not worth the price in my opinion either. Once I had it I found it wouldn't have been hard to fab the brackets and the cost would have probably been about $20 for the metal plus the cost of the pods.

I'm giving the old fabrication a whirl here. Like you said $20 plus the two pods ($80) I've got a very open no restriction air intake. Subtract what I can sell my airbox for, and I think its worth it.

It isn't real hard, that's how we always bobbed rear fenders. That way, you have the nicely finished original edge, often with some sculpture effects, where it shows instead of having to fuss around smoothing and squaring off your cut.

+1 we used to cut the edge under the seat and roll forward just like Greybeard said to keep the nice finished end then just have to sort the tail light area.

If youre taking out the airbox are you losing all the side covers?.....If youre losing the side covers are you moving the battery?...Well if youre moving the battery then it does the lower fender job. If youre keeping the side panels and you cant see it, why not just use a piece of 1/8" rubber and hang it down a bit. if youre just worried about road grime kicking up I mean.

I'll try to keep the side cover that says "America" on. Yes I'm planning on relocating the battery. Yes it will act as a good fender fill where the airbox use to be, but I would like something to keep the battery clean (1/8" rubber would do) Will the battery fill the entire hole? My full intention is to keep road grime from flinging up into my pods, carbs, motor, and sitting atop the tranny.
