Okay, there have been several posts about, What's your favorite tune to ride/walk/drive by?" I thought I'd start one about songs which just annoy the living crap out of you when you here them on the radio, because they've been overplayed so many times that the grooves are worn out in the CD. Specific genres like rap. R&R, Classical, country, etc. don't count. List a specific song (if you know it), please. Otherwise, sort of describe the one you're listing.
I'll start:
1. Freebird 2. Cocaine 3. Sweet Home Alabama 4. Steppenwolf's single hit 5. Hotel California

The term "song" is very subjective here , open for much interpretation . I can think of several , but then they would be back to haunt the inner sanctum of my cranium .

"Oh No You Didn't" - that song from the Mercenaries 2 commercial. I guess I shouldn't have downloaded the full version from their web site.

WOW! What a coincidence, John! YOUR list here... Quote:
1. Freebird 2. Cocaine 3. Sweet Home Alabama 4. Steppenwolf's single hit 5. Hotel California
..is REAL close to MINE here...
1. Gratisfowl 2. Morphine 3. Bitter Home Mississippi 4. Hermann Hesse's single hit 5. Bed and Breakfast Arizona
Funny though...I must be a little luckier than you are, dude. I haven't heard ANY of THOSE on the Classic Rock radio stations here in L.A. for quite a while now! Go figure, huh?!
(okay, OKAY...SORRY!!! Here's one for ya, JB...as much as I've always liked Led Zeppelin...oh, oh, oh, oh, OH, oh...I could NEVER stand "D'yer Mak'er"..it just has to go..oh, oh, oh, OH, oh...Yes it has to GO..oh, oh, oh, OH, oh...oh baby, PLEASE just GO!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

We will rock you. Achy breaky heart. And any we Americans are PO'd now are gonna kick you azz country and western song ever written.
The percentage you're paying is too high-priced
While you're living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams

Don't recall the name, but part of it was a downward scale after each phrase, with an upscale hook at the end - sort of: Dodey-oh,dodey-oh,dodey-oh,dodey-oh,dodey-oh,dodey-oh-mm-mm-bah-bah (repeat several times) add the (upscale)wahh-wahh-wahh-wahhhhhhhh. Can't tell my pshrink what my problem is, if I can't identify it...

Despite the fact that I have been to see Status Quo umpteen times "rockin' all over the world" grates on me no end.
But a few other notables:
Phil Collins - "in the air tonight" - Just like phosgene Celine dion - "my heart will go on" and it goes on and on and f'n on Robbie williams "angels" - The cornerstone of drunken kareoke singers The beatles "hey jude" - they got the message over in about 2 minutes so why prolong the agony? The spice girls - "wannabe" is that right? does anyone care?
Before the war on terror, if I saw an unattended package I used to think "I'll be having that!"

Ok, so I'll go against the grain. Stairway is a great song. So is Hotel California. Would you much rather hear Dust In The Wind? Horse With No Name? Levon?
It's unfortunate that "classics" are overplayed. Maybe some people need to change radio channels or explore new music or get new friends. JMHO...
You want something different, check out Dream Theater, King's X, and if that's too heavy for you, Robben Ford...
Enjoy music!

Sorry, this thread is about totally annoying songs, so I'll nominate "All Star"
Another, that I walked out of a bar on played by the band is that "I'd Walk Three Miles" crap song, or whatever it is they say...

Amen to that. That's why I love my XM radio, Channel 40 - Deep Tracks (like AOR from 70's). They play the stuff you never hear, but should! Quote:

I picked that up off itunes not too long ago. The yodeling always makes me laugh. And really, what rock song is complete without yodeling?
