Out for a prework ride yesterday. Heading down CT 66. Speed limit 45 most people do 60. I come out of a turn, up haead 2 mopeds (not scooters mopeds) each has about a 7 foot whip antennea looking tihing on the back. With an orange flag at the top(safty I guess). But they are riding side by side. Doing about 35. One is about 2 feet inside the double yellow (right where I like to be) the other is about 2 feet off the shoulder. I figure if I dont get past them in about 30 seconds I'm gonna have some asshat in an SUV on my back tire.Next safe place to pass is about 3 miles up. I check my rear view I got a dump truck bearing down on me about 100 ft back and closing.Time to make a choise.Cant see far enough head to use the oncoming lane.Screw It I drop down a gear.Crack the throttle and shoot the gap between the mopeds.
I did not hear anything on the news so i guess the dump truck did not take them out. But I realy realy hope that I scared the crap out of them. And they went home and talked about that jerk on the motorcycle.

What is it with some people? Around here pedestrians, joggers, bicycles will do the same thing. Side by side with no sidewalk, then won't go single file when a car or motorcycle comes along.

Well Pete, I'm thinking their mentality is that they feel they have the right to use the road as they do, which ironically they SOMETIMES actually do!
However, the "feeling" that they seem to be lacking is that sometimes in the REAL WORLD exercising those "rights" will ALSO often put THEM and oft-times other folks at risk too.
(and thus, they could be suffering a slight deficiency in one particular set of their genomes which would normally prompt the self-preservation instinct in most people...or, in other words......THEY'RE FRIGGIN' MORONS, dude!!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Speaking of mopeds, I shake my head every time I see one take off from a light and the rider drags his feet all the way through the intersection.

Was that YOU behind me???
Actually, 'Morons on Mopeds' would make a great, ironic club name, IMHO.

A bike coming up behind me gets more of my attention than a dump truck. Stupid is one thing, quick and stupid is something else entirely.

Too many people are the center of their own universe. They lack the ability to see this world past their own immediate circle... you know... politicians!

In my state kids ride mopeds because you can legally at 14 My kid road one for 2 years before getting his motocycle license at 16... I thought it was good training for him... He had to deal with dicks in cars and on bikes and made him a better rider today... we should not be so Quick to forget what it's like to be a kid and in the wind

That's great that your son was able to legally ride a moped. That's great experience to carry over to safe motorcyle riding. Just stay to the side like a bicycle so others can get by. In the original post the "moron moped" riders were obstructing traffic. I cut my teeth on a Craftsman mini-bike. Riding in empty school parking lots, back yards, trails, and such. But every time some darn "old hen" (usually the lady across the street) would call the cops on us!
