Did this after mashing my fingers between the tank and frame numerous times. It is also a more scure way to handle the tank when moving it around. I had the 1 1/2" material on hand and didn't want to go to town to get something else. 1" or 3/4 would have been better.
Said Molly to James, that's a fine motorbike.

thats off the dash mounting tabs right?
do you leave it on under the dash, do you ride with no dash, do you take put it on temporarily to just move it?

Looks like a solution without a problem. I've had my tank off dozens of times and never caught my fingers.

Have to agree. In fact, I always hold the tank on either side while pulling it off.

having flat paint i try not to touch the tank at all, especially with greasy hands, so I do grab the tank at the tunnel and slightly pinch my fingers when sliding it into the side channels. So the handle would help, but I dont think it'd be worth it to me if I had to put the handle on and take it off just for moving the tank. Thanks why I was wondering if you kept it on under the dash somehow, but it doesnt seem like thats the case.
Does adding 2 more screws to assembly/reassembly for holding the tank give that much advantage?

Yup, off those tabs, & Yup, just put it on when removing tank. It's no trouble at all to do, and makes handling the tank easier. Worth it to me.

I do too, but sometimes if I'm having a hard time hooking the vent tube back up, holding it in the middle ballances it better.

I put a plastic quick disconnect in the vent line under the tank so that I don't have to balance the tank and connect the vent at the same time.

Rock the tank on the towel to gain access to the vent nipple.

Its not flat enough to not care about it, I mean not polishing chrome and having black white walls is one thing, but grease all over the tank is just too punk rock for me...haha

youre crazy...haha I'd wrap a single piece of romex around the base of one tab and to the other and leave it on under the dash at all times.

I have some stiff plastic coated wire and thought about using it. Lots of ways to skin the cat.

yeah as long as it gets the job done, I just figured if you werent using the holes and wrapping it around the base of the tabs then you'd be able to leave the wire under the dash and not have to take it off to move it.
