Now i realise i am just askin to be flamed here but... I quite like this, the new Cross Bones from HD. Got a bit of a slating in a write up in this months Ride magazine but was quite well received by the chaps at Bike magazine although the finish was described as poor. So, wadda ya rekon? PS: i love my BA and wont be changing it anytime soon!

I pretty much like it with the exception of the rear fender, exhaust , and lack of a kicker.

I dont like it as much as the Fat Bob, but I'm not a fan of springer front ends. I still stop and look at it when I go in the local Harley shop

the bikes cool looking, ill give it that. But whenever I look at it, it just screams FAKE.
I guess its because any idiot can go out and buy a brand new one to get the look they want, when most guys made their bikes look like that through hard work and the desire to be different than the typical chromeoholics.
And then theres the sprung solo seat that sits on top of a softtail rear end. Is this just for extra comfort?...haha NO its just so it LOOKS like something else. What is it TRYING to be? a hardtail

just bought an h-d....the touring bikes have something different to offer over the tba and sm. That's why i didn't even think about the dyna line up....the triumphs are simply better imho....the fatbob had me VERY VERY close though. I went with an electra glide. perfect for what I wanted and I'll have another speedmaster for sure. or bonnie. i just don't have space for 2 right now. btw-was looking at a rocket tourer....I'm a small guy...physically too big.

I sat on one at the local dealer the other day,the seat goes along with typical Harley thinking,it will get you from one bar to another, much more than that and you'll be a BAD ****** in more ways than one.

Give it about 8 degrees more rake, extend the forks 8 or 10 inches and, for Gods sake, put some real paint over that primer on the fenders and tank. Then it could be a decent looking bike.

Yeah, the Dyna fender seems out of place and the exhaust should be black. Still, it's a pretty nice piece for a factory job.

A guy turns up at our local meet on one of these, and yep I like it to. He says you can just put a passenger seat on it with sissy bar in around 5 minutes, but you need to swop the fender bolts out as it clips to them..

i think you have something there!!!!! dirtbike type handlebars like so many older triumph guys used to use on thier bobbers would look fantastic.
to me apes have to go with a rear tire hugged fender not the duck tailed type. in person, these look at least a little better.

Good looking bike, that Cross Bones
The rear fender is a mighty AMF-itty though
Guess they can't make everybody happy.

I don't know Angel, but that there Electraglide of Tony's back there in Beantown(above) is lookin' mighty pretty to me!
(I mean, if ya's ta get a big ol' machine that can't really handle much, then why not go with a little comfort and convenience too then, huh?!...and it looks like Tony's figured this out)

actually, you'd be pretty surprised on how it handles. ever ride one? won't smoke a sportbike but I can promise you that it handles surprisingly well in the twisties.
I think Frank will vouch for the fact that it hasn't slowed me down in the twisties much.
It's big but there are plenty bigger. Big and slow is a stereo type. I can certainly get "in trouble" with it. My tookus just doesn't hurt as much while doing it.
I bought it for long periods on the slab. if not for that I'd still have the SM. the SM is a VERY good bike. possibly the most over looked bike in motorcycle'n.

Yeah Tony I have ridden the Electraglide. It's a very fine motorcycle, alright!!! But where I rode my friend's Electraglide it was on CA Hwy- 1 through Big Sur, and I gotta tell ya, after the first 20 miles of ridin' that beautiful stretch of ultimate twisties situated about 500 feet above the crashing Pacific Ocean, I started scrapin' the heck out that poor Harley in efforts to try and catch my friend who was on my BA about a quarter mile ahead o' me and pullin' away!!! And I AIN'T NO novice when it comes to ridin' motorcycles EITHER, dude!!! Of course, once I caught the guy(and only because he slowed down to wait for me) he didn't want to trade back machines until we got to about San Simeon and where Hwy-1 turns into the coastal plain, where it's flat and straight as an arrow. I told him, "tough luck" and got my Triumph back at just about the 30 mile marker. (I still don't know to this day why I agreed to swap bikes just as we left Carmel and headed south?...what a dummy I am sometimes!!!)

hhhmmmm I haven't had that problem. Yea, it will scrape a bit but nothing out of the ordinary.....the sm used to scrape as well.
didn't say you where a novice....just saying that the "big and slow" or "outdated" thing just isn't true anymore.
frank, me and a friend of ours did a LOAD of twisties this weekend and the bike didn't flinch. The only issue was on a VERY tight turn, I hit a groove. had the pucker factor but it's understandable.
On the speedmaster, and I am not tooting my own horn, there wasn't much that could catch me in the twisties. I'm winning no isle of man on the glide but it will certainly hold it's own.
I like the 96ci over the 88ci because it has more usable torque in the twisties.
They have worked out all the bugs on the fly by wire throttle and and added a cush drive and for a bone stock bike, it's very smooth.

The Electraglide I rode was a '05, Tony, so maybe there has a been some changes in their suspension compliance since I was on my friend's.
BTW...Does your Electra Glide use the same twin counterbalanced motor that they're puttin' on all the Solftails nowdays? I LIKE that motor. It doesn't do the ol' "bob and weave" at the stoplights, ya know! But, some folks do still like that feeling I guess.

i have an 08 so it DOES idle messy. it was intended to. I actually like it. it has 100% no vibes what so ever after 1200rpms. it idles at 1000rpms.
The 09's use different motor mounts to cut down on idle vibes but people report that there is buzzing in the floorboards or grips at certain rpms. it also has a new frame.
I went with the 08 for 3 reasons. the heat "issues" aren't fixed with the new frame, I road a pre 09 96ci and feel that it handles very well and I got a fantastic price on the 08. a family member works at the dealership.
make no mistake, I didn't buy the h-d to buy an h-d....I will promise you that the sm and ba are a better bike then the dyna or sportster line. I prefer it over the softail line too but that's a different breed so it's hard to judge.

oh.....you mentioned suspension.
mine has 3 stage progressive in the front and air ride in the back. You really have to dial in the back because it is really messy if you don't.
The front's first stage is pretty soft but the second and final are pretty respectable.

Well, don't worry Tony. I know anybody who would own a BA or Speedy at one time or another wouldn't be prone to falling prey to the ol' "Lifestyle" rationale as for their primary purchasing decision. As I stated, I've always liked the Electra Glides myself, along with a few of the Dyna models, and I'd REALLY liked to see those boys in Milwaukee wise up and start selling that new XR1200 flattrack-lookin' Sportster over here in the States where it belongs and not, for some strange reason, just in Europe, but I'd need a heck of a lot more money than I have in order to satisfy all of my motorcycle wishes.

Good point. I've talked to quite a few owners who, when asked about the suspension replay "yeah, it holds air or something". They of course have not dialed theirs in. Quote:

Well, once again Al, I'm figurin' anybody who has owned OR owns a Triumph motorcycle (like Tony here) would be "savy enough" to figure out how to adjust a Harley's suspension so they could at least have some fun on the twisties with it!!!

That blows my mind....it is SO easy and even 5 psi makes a HUGE difference....you can wollop along with a sponge under your butt or you can stiffen it so an elephant can't compress the darn thing. I asked my brother in law who has a rode glide if he wanted me to dial his in.....he said "what do you mean? they said it camed set already"

Well, the one thing I am having an issue with is that SOME people I know (some ride-some don't) think I just stepped up in the food chain because I bought a "hahlee".
"lifestyle" people are ok with me. I am that way with the SM and Triumphs in general. I just can't go with the notion that h-ds are in someway overly superior that any other bike. I think you get what you pay for because the the fit and finish is great and they ride well but I don't drink the kool-aide about the superiority complex.
Every company out there has a bike I would own, every bike can have a glitch here and there and more importantly it doesn't really matter what you ride it's just important that you are riding and being safe.
People are already busting my hump about wearing my triumph paddock jacket on the new bike.
Some people just don't get it!

btw-I sat on a xbones yesterday. uh.....um.....I don't get the seat. NICE in person depending on the color but it feels wierd!
I can't believe I am going to actually type this but the rocker with the MATTE finish is actually great looking IN PERSON. It's small though. I'd take a pimped out SM over it any day.
