I've got a no charge situ on an 05 T-100 bonny. Tested good battery, tested good alternator ac output, changed out regulator for a known good one-still no joy. Any idears on where to go next? Thanks, G

Measure the voltage at pin 6 on the regulator connector. If it's greater than the voltage at the battery, trace the black wire from that connector to the battery. If it is the same as the battery voltage, check again on the regulator side of the connector. If it is higher there, check the connector pins for damage and corrosion.

Thanks, is #6 the black w/ red tracer, output to battery? I already tried a heavier wire direct from there to battery, no change, but I will have another look for flakey connections and corrosion G

Check both ends of cables too. A little corrosion can affect the charging while still allowing starting amperage to connect.
Sounds like it has to be a wiring problem. Most likely a connection.
Check fuse block too.

Well, after cleaning and going over every plug, ground, battery terminal I can find, it charges better, but not great. After running the heavier wire from regulator to battery, it charges 13.7 @4000 rpms. The book calls for 14.2, but I think 13.7 is enough to keep the battery from going dead. I 'll ride it for a while and see if I thimk it can be trusted. Thanks for the help, guys G

That kinda stuff is usually a bad connection somewhere... Definitely take out every fuse and grease the connections etc.

That almost certainly points to a poor system ground.

yeah, my brother is an electronics tech albeit not a bike tech, we ohmed out every connection, cleaned every plug, and never really found a problem anywhere. I hope 13.7 charging volts is enough to keep er alive, that seems to be all she will do G

curiuser and curiuser..after a good long ride, during which I definitely saw signs of the bike running better, such as a more even and slightly higher idle, and when I stopped for fuel, on restart the starter sounded stronger and faster. But on getting home and checking the charging voltage, its still 13.7 at 4000 rpms, but for some strange reason its almost too high at idle, like 14.7. I dont spend time at idle, so I dont think it would overcharge, but its just weird. I'm just gonna keep ridin and see.. G

That sounds low to me. I'm pretty sure the alternator needs to exceed 14V to fully charge a "12V" lead/acid battery. I'll check my America tomorrow or Tuesday when I get home.

Since I had run a heavier wire for the pos side, I figured I would run a heavier ground too. Now it seems just about back to normal, except still slightly high at idle, 13.6 or so, then going up to 14.2 at 4000 rpms. I dont really understand it, but I guess the wires going thru the harness are marginal, even tho they seemed to ohm out ok. Time to just ride it and see.. G
