I was riding to work yesterday when I observed a female driver cut in
> front of a pickup truck, causing him to have to drive on to the shoulder
> to avoid hitting her. This evidently angered the driver because he hung
> his arm out his window and "flipped" the woman off.
>
> "Man, that guy is stupid," I thought to myself. I ALWAYS smile nicely
> and wave in a sheepish manner whenever a female does anything to me in
> traffic, and here's why:
>
> I ride 48 miles each way to work. That's 96 miles each day.
>
> Of these, 16 miles each way is bumper-to-bumper.
>
> Most of the bumper-to-bumper is on an 8 lane highway.
>
> There are 7 cars every 40 feet for 32 miles.
>
> That works out to be 982 cars every mile, or 31,424 cars.
>
> Even though the rest of the 32 miles is not bumper-to- bumper, I figure
> I pass at least another 4000 cars.
>
> That brings the number to something like 36,000 cars that I pass every
> day.
>
> Statistically, females drive half of these. That's 18,000 women drivers!
>
> In any given group of females, 1 in 28 has PMS.
>
> That's 642.
>
> According to Cosmopolitan, 70% of women describe their love life as
> dissatisfying or unrewarding.
>
> That's 449.
>
> According to the National Institutes of Health, 22% of all females have
> seriously considered suicide or homicide.
>
> That's 98.
>
> And 34% describe men as their biggest problem.
>
> That's 33.
>
> According to the National Rifle Association, 5% of all females carry
> weapons, and this number is increasing.
>
> That means that EVERY SINGLE DAY, I drive past at least one female that
> has a lousy love life, thinks men are her biggest problem, has seriously
> considered suicide or homicide, has PMS, and is armed.
>
> Flip one off? ....... I think not.

Greybeard, you crack me up, who was it that said males don't understand us?
Your story reminds me when I was despatching and got cut up by white van man, kicked his door gave him verbal & V sign and then excelerated off, only to have the lights change to red! looked in mirror to see hairy arsed grizzly Adams getting out of white van & coming towards me, ****** what do I do now? fortunately the lights changed & I pulled away & waved. After I had changed my underwear I thought you never know what nutters are in these steel boxes. So now I too smile& mutter under my helmet quietly

Take it easy

Martyn If you have to ask why I ride, you wouldn't understand the answer!

Well you cannot argue with statistics like that. I never try to retaliate when a cager does something stupid. Getting into a fight with someone behind the wheel of a 3000lb to 8000lb vehicle just doesn't work. The most I will do is us my horn to at least let them know I exist. Besides, pissing them off might not get me in trouble (I am already aware that they are trouble), but the next unsupecting biker might not be so lucky. Bottom line don't give the cagers any more reasons to hate people on bikes.

This post brings back memories of an incident in my youth, while riding back from the local watering hole with my mates girlfriend on the back "don,t ask" got cut up by a Land Rover.I gave him the finger "as any rock hard rocker would do" and feeling pretty smug.At the next set of lights, four burly type farmers boys jumped out and informed me that if there was any problem,I would end up as tomorrow,s fertilizer!.What could a young lad do!BLUBBER sorry mister.I still live with the shame.
