As some of you may know, my '07 was trashed a couple of months ago by an idiot that shouldn't be behind the wheel of anything. But yesterday I picked up my next ride...a 2005 America. Won it off of eBay from a gent up in PA. He put it up for grabs since he never really rode it. It came with Triumph saddlebags, long TORS, short sissybar w/ luggage rack and it was garage kept with right over 2900 miles.

My girlfriend and I went up Friday afternoon, spent the night, picked it up the next morning and I rode it back down home. That was a heck of a ride...just under 400 miles. Although I've riden longer in a day, that was certainly the hardest I've riden. My rump is still letting me know it this morning.

One thing I must comment on is how quiet it was, even with the TORS. I understand the 05 is 75cc short of the 07 I had, but I didn't think it would make that big a difference. Plus it still has a stock air filter; I'll be putting in a K&N this week, but I'm not sure if it wil make that big of a difference regarding sound. For those of you who have been around many Triumphs, is a significant difference in noise level expected between the 790 and 865? It really almost sounded like I was running stock pipes. Just curious that's all.

Next step is to talk the girlfriend into the VA ride next Saturday. Hope to see many of you there!

I highly recommend D&D's, expensive, but worth it, not too loud, but loud when you crack the throttle, I did the Freak, and installed 155 main jets, and it runs flawlessly.

You could always try to pull the baffles first before replacing with something different, since it doesn't cost anything...

the 790 motor likes the bubs, or tbike pipes. pull that snorkle also and rejet and i think you will be happy with how it runs. less tq than the 07, but it has more peak hp which means if you run it out you will feel it. glad your riding again and goodluck with the new ride

I have an '03 Speedy. JCWhitney 16" shorties work great, for $40 each.
You don't have to worry about it being too quiet.

Some day I might just hate my neighbors enough to do that.

I like what you've done to your bike. Cool.

Thanks for the input gents. I'd like to stay away from changing the pipes if possible as I really like the look of the long slash-cut TORS. I know, I'm a freak. Sometimes the simple things look the coolest to me. I'm thinking worst case I'll just drill out some of the baffles. Who knows, I just got it and haven't really had a chance to play with it yet. Plenty time ahead.

Keep the comments flowing; all information is well appreciated!

I've ridden with a fine fellow, BikerT, who I believe has the long Tors and he punched one hole in the baffle....creating a sound I wish I could get out of my bike. Maybe Willy will see this and jump in here....if not...I'll send along a link to him so you can get more info. Don

You picked it up in PA and didn't stop to go for a ride!! Plus you could have heard Wendys long slash cut gutted pipes. Loud and deep tone and hers is a 790.
