......and not an America in sight!!!

Today was a free, open Rally of Brough Superiors. Held in my home town and the city of their manufacture, Nottingham. I had no expectations when I got up this morning, was expecting around 10, maybe 12.

We (me and my parents) got to the place and were shocked! I would say there were around 80 bikes!

I didn't think there were this many built let alone this many left!
Me dad took loads of pics (I'm still crap at actually taking my camera out of my bag....) so here's a couple....

This was not the worst..., but is apparently work in progress... not sure how long it has been though!

This one is a Brough engine and other bits - the purists will probably think it's a shocker - but it's a Brough on the road...

Oh and Brough didn't just make bikes - heres some Brough Superior Cars.

The thing that struck me, is that despite their rarity, their owners are nice people. It's the first show/rally I've been to where the tea and coffee has been 'for a small donation'. I put in £3 for a coffee and 2 Cokes. There were people from Canada, France Ireland and France. I saw a bike being unloaded from a trailer that had come from Holland. There was an ad from 1990 - one was stolen and there was £1000 reward...seems it still hasn't been found. I amazes me how something like that cannot be found.

Oh and the dog went too... He got nearly as much attention as the bikes!

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

I look at these old bikes and I think about the guys that rode them, the guys that really rode them and realize how easy we've got it....

I am also so intrigued by the mechanics of these old machines- Like the ones that look like a radiator or an intercooler hanging of the sides? Were they water cooled?

Or the custom above, what is that- a generator hanging off the front?

thanks for the great pix Gina.

I'm talking about the piece hanging of the lower front frame behind the front wheel.

What is a Drybollock

Great pictures Gina. Good job on the photoshop as well. Who would ever believe that the sky was blue and the sun was out at a rally in England. You fooled us good with these ones.

Great pictures, thank you for posting. And i love your dog.

Looks like an old style magneto. They used to make them with a row of horseshoe magnets.
