Hi All,

Tanya dropped her new (well, second hand) Scrambler on the driveway yesterday and after i finished pointing and laughing (she does the same to me) i helped her up.

Well apart from the drivers foot peg (right hand side) completely snapping off (which i can fix with no worries) we noticed no other real damage _apart_ from this odd pipe coming out of the rear left hand side of the bike.

We only noticed it because it was leaking 'stuff' (a translucent yellow colour) ever so slightly before stopping about 5 minutes later.

the pipe itself seems to feed somewhere under the tank.

any idea what this is and where it should go?

i tried going on www.bonnevillescrambler.com but they were all busy avioding German capture and shouting 'I'm Steve McQueen!' lots. I last saw them heading to Switzerland...

cheers in advance for any help.

looks like the fuel overflow line... would explain the translucent yellow color fluid (fuel) and line going to the tank (of fuel)

ah. so that's not meant to be connected to anything?

it went straight over horizontal so i'm assuming the fuel overflow line is there in case fuel...overflows...

(look at my l33t technical skills with a bike huh?)

is it anything i need to worry about?

Its a vent for the fuel tank, and it has an in-line valve that closes in the event of a tip over to prevent fuel from spilling on the ground. On our bikes, a few have had a problem with that valve being crooked and closing, or stuck closed. If that happens, the bike will be starved for gas and quit. Just make sure the line and valve are oriented in original configuration. If the bike acts like its running out of gas, loosen the fuel cap to relieve vaccuum in tank til you can fix it.

Sounds to me like it's the airbox drain hose. It is usually capped with a rubber plug. This hose collects the residue of oil mist that gets in through the crankcase breather. It often mingles with any moisture that might be sucked into the intake, turning the oil to a nasty yellow color with the consistancy of fresh snot.
By the way, part of the oil change service procedure is to pop out the plug and drain the goop out of these hoses.
