Im a grouchy old man at times. Been riding for lots of years. Came up in a time when if you wanted it for your bike you had better be able to make it,there just wasnt an after market. Seen alot of talent, but today at least around Harleys, its go to the dealer and buy it have it installed, instant custom. I'd like to tell all that is here, that there is alot of talent here. I know first hand what it takes to make these AB and Speedy look this good. Looking forward to adding mine somewhere down the line. Keep the good work up cause Im getting ideas from all the pictures.

And of course, it helps that we start with real motorcycles. Speaking of real motorcycles, I was in the local HD dealer last weekend and it looked like Halloween. Every doctor/lawyer/IT geek in town was there, all lookin' like they just bailed from a gay leather bar. The corporate hucksters who keep this charade alive must be laughin' their butts off.

That's why I'd just as soon work weekends, only the serious people go to the bike shop on weekdays. If they ever have a Village People sing-along at the local HD dealer, I'm leaving!

Loyd, Thats what its all about mate! You want forward controls, you don't go buy 'em off a shelf. You design and fabricate the things yourself. And if you don't have the skills, you get one of your buddies to come around and help. I build, or buy and modify parts for most of the mods that have been done on my America and love it when someone asks "where'd ya get that from" and I get to say "I made it Bro!" And thats what it's all about mate.

The less time you spend making something to add to your bike, the more time you have to ride your bike. There is an aftermarket for us to enjoy nowadays, I'm getting acustomed to not having to design and fabricate every time I want something. While it is rewarding to make things for yourself, it's also nice to be able to just get something already to go.

I think these bikes are in a great position for customizing, there's not a flooded aftermarket with every bit done to death (hd) but at the same time, we don't have to cast our own pistons and fab every part (world's fastest indian). ENJOY!!!! That's what it's about.

Kinda like sex. I prefer to look around, find something I like, and see if I can make it work. Others just want to work their butts off to get the money to just go out and pay for it. I guess it does matter if you have the skills!

In my case I can't always make what I want but I sure can draw it or cut out a cardboard template for a cat who has skills. IMO that's showing your scoot some love...

When you make something work on your own AND it actually works/fits/doesn't break, that's a feeling you just can't buy (if it makes more sense to just buy the darn thing!).
I'm definitely more in the "build-em don't buy 'em" camp but whatever puts a smile on your face.

If you want to buy all the bolt on aftermarket doodads for your bike,do it. However I do see a lot of guys doing so and bashing the HD guys for the same thing. How many guys here own a Triumph Jacket or more than 1 tshirt?

I do , but all except my jacket were free from my dealer. My jacket I got for $80 new with tags! How could I pass that up.

It's tradition, we have to! This is the jacket I bought, found one for Wendy at the same price too. All brass snaps , buckles and zippers and the snaps say Triumph on them. They are black, don't know why they look brown in the pix.

does make your own count for T shirts? I am a bit larger than the average guy and triumph dont make anything that would fit me, so having a bro in the T trade I got him to make me some. I dont have a pic of me wearing one yet but here's a video of me playing my guitar wearing one. forgive the singing lol. if anybody cant get a big T give me a PM and I will see what I can do.

its a Lowden guitar, tuned down half a step (Eb) and then in drop D! so that makes it in drop C#.It rattles a little tuned so low, but it sounds great lol.

I am now working on my first Triumph. It's a 750 T140v; some work has been done and then abandoned?
I haven’t been able to start it yet and I am looking for a forum that has info for novice on older bikes.
I just wanted to say my intention is to build this bike to suit me, a bit quirky but functional and mechanically excellent. I am a bit put off with strict traditionalists and pre built customs.
There don't seem to be many discussions on the forums here about the older bikes and there fixins, but the replies I have had have been nice and some of the discussions been humorous. Some good links too.

All things being equal, I'd love to make my own stuff. Problem is, I'm a hack metal worker at best. I made a few parts for my Beemer, but they were ugly. Didn't matter on the Beemer, because it's an ugly bike (and I say that with love). If I tried to fab a part for the America, I'd ruin the look of it.

I know what you mean. Most of my mods haven't been pretty. The only thing I was really proud of, proud enough to chrome, was a lightbar bracket I designed and fabbed. Everything else is pretty ugly but mostly hidden, like my first set of saddlebag brackets and my battery relocation box.
