well i did it, i bought 1977 HD FLH, the guy i bought it from is retired air force pilot and now fed x pilot, oh he has a 1962 corevette i perfect condition, so the bike is pretty nice looking ride. my wife and i have been talking about getting a big bike, i was looking at the rockett touring, but this guy sold me this for as much as i paid for my triumph. so i could not pass it up. so i thought i would get the input from you guys on my buy?

Nice, an old 74 Shovelhead, good for you. Not as horsepower enriched as later models (maybe 60 hp out of the box) but still a great ride and easy enough to wrench. One things for sure, there's a raft of aftermarket bling and power accessories just waiting to lighten your wallet. Congratulations.

Wow, nice bike! Most of the leaks I see on these bikes are transmission leaks through the main shaft. My solution has been a product called the "super nut" and the liberal aplication of Permetex's "the Right Stuff", (best sealer on the planet), to the splines on the drive sprocket and the output hub. This is the only way I've found to seal the chronic leaks on Harley 4 speed transmissions. And, boy does it work well.

well made the trip, put about 1500 miles on her, it gat a exhaust leak somewhere on the way back, now it starts hard and run ruff, so i have been trying to find the problem, it also will pop a flame out the carb, i hope i did not burn a valve, any thoughts?

Good looking shovel , could be a valve but I wouldn't rule out the exhaust leak being the bulk of the problem. You can get a carb backfire and not have a valve issue. If it is doing it a lot then you might want to be a little more concerned.

You don't say whether you're running solid or hydraulic lifters. Many of those old Shovels run solids and can have problems with valves to tight.
However, the more likely culprit is a loose front exhaust valve. If it's tapping check to make sure your lifter hasn't loosened up. The geometry of that motor makes that front pushrod (the longest) susceptible to loosening.
If you're running solids, I've had luck with adjustable pushrods and solid plungers.
