Well, I don't know why you guys are so stumped here?!!!(I said "stumped" NOT "dumped", BTW)
I know plenty of people who when the name "Moto Guzzi" comes up in conversation, their first thoughts turn to the term "Agricultural"!
And the reason WHY?! Because I've heard their first products were actually tractors.
(no, REALLY!...and I think it's true!)

Well, don't get me wrong, skid. I still DO like Guzzis.
And I especially like their Norge sport-touring bike.

Thanks for the Wiki prompt about that, Soren.
Look like you're right. But I'd almost swear that I've read about or seen a picture of their first V-Twins(and not their first products as I stated above) were actually designed to run farm equipment a little after WWII.
(but maybe it was all a dream?...or maybe one of those urban myths I might'a bought into, huh?!)

No, I think you are right about some motorcycle company doing that. I remember hearing that somewhere. I dont remember which one it is (or was) though. Maybe it is an urban myth?

I have seen some pretty crazy Guzzi conversions and some were for military use. Half track/ trike combo with retractable bogie wheel and removeable tracks for a troop carrier. I also have seen a Guzzi pick up truck where from the outside it looks like a 3 wheel dump truck but look inside the cab and the bike front 1/2 is still there complete with seat, gas tank, handle bars , headlight , and front forks.

Looks like that Wiki on Guzzi history might be missing some information.

Italian bike stuff can be very interesting. I always believe Guzzi to be a bike maker who later after the second world war allowed his engines to be used in small tractors and farm machines. Seems it was the army who used the twins. From http://www.supershowevents.com/collection/moj4italy.htmlMoto Guzzi was founded by Carlo Guzzi and Giorgio Parodi. There was a third man, Giovanni Ravelli, involved but he unfortunately was killed in a plane crash only days after WWI. The three motorcycle enthusiasts met and discussed plans to build a new motorcycle company while serving in the newly formed Italian Air Force. The flying eagle in the company’s logo is in memory of Ravelli. The greatest of all Moto Guzzi models are based on only two engines. The first engine produced was a 500cc four stroke engine that had the cylinder parallel to the ground and the other engine was the 90º transverse V-twin. The single was in production since the initial prototype in 1920 and stayed in production until 1976 in various forms. The transverse V-twin came to exist to meet the requirements of a contract in the late 1950’s with the Italian army who wanted a workhorse engine in a military vehicle with a single front wheel and double tracks on the rear. The engine did give way in later years to becoming a motorcycle engine, due in part because of military and police demands for more power after many years of using Moto Guzzi's single cylinder powered bikes. Here is some interesting Laverda info re farm tools. The Laverda company can trace its roots back as far as 1873 to a farm machinery company owned by Pietro Laverda. In 1948, grandson Francesco Laverda built his own lightweight 75cc 4-stroke engine for personal use and amusement. Although he had no intention of building any more motorcycles, many of his friends asked him to build bikes for them so into production he went. There ya go. STU PS and of course, Mr Lamborgini is a tractor manufacturer who bought a Ferrari and complained about the finish of the car. He took his complaint to the boss who said, "You do not know what is good in a car, you are only a tractor maker, p!ss off". Obviously he got the sh!ts on with Enzo and decided to build a better looking and better finished sports car.

the norge flung a craving on me for a sport tourer,, but,, the closest dealer was ft. worth, and they had to have the valves adjusteded at 500 miles, then every 5,000. enter the fjr, dealer on every corner, 24,000 mile valve adjustment. also you have to remove the fairing to CHECK the oil on thenorge. no sale!!!!!i think i made the logical decision, no flies on the fjr.
some people are like slinkies, they serve no purpose, but, they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

I knew it! I knew it! As I was reading this thread, I wondered how long before someone went and said it. Well you've done it. And really there's no call for that kind of talk. most "normal" Harley riders have the utmost respect for all things Triumph. You'll spark the ire of the neanderthals.

Hmm when I bought my Road King they told me nothing about farming impliments.
Mind you it has been suggested to me, by a very knowledgeable irrigation expert, that the twin cam may be the worlds fastest stationary engine.
He said he understands pumps and such like.

Nice bikes but no dealer's in our area. The last one dropped Guzzi apparently over payment of warranty work.
