I'm trying to change my back brake pads.... but the pins that hold them in place (the ones that in the Haynes it says loosen but don't remove) are so tight I can't get them undone. I've tried an allen key bit in a ratchet but short of buggering up the pin they still won't come out. I've called the dealer, but they can't fit me in today. I think I've got no more than 100 miles of wear on the pads so it's getting urgent I do them.
Any suggestions?
I haven't tried wd40 yet. If I don't get any help in the next hour...that's the way I'm going, just not sure about using that so close to my brakes...on the grounds I get it everywhere!

Gina- Go for the WD40. Even if you get some on the pads, you're changing those anyway. Any that gets on the rotor will burn off pretty quick, and the front brake is fine, so no worries. After the WD, sometimes it helps to tap lightly on the wrench while turning. Good luck!

Put the bit in the bolt and hit with a few sharp raps with a hammer but careful not to hit hard enough to bend or break anything. That will in most cases knock a stubborn bolt loose.

An impact driver is handy in these situations. Cheap too. Without one, best bet is to put the bit in the bolt and whack it pretty sharply with a hammer. Be careful not to hit it too hard though. Good luck.

Used the bit, hit so hard that I thought the bike was gonna come off it's stand (not the side stand - a stand I use for working on it) and the pads are done.
Thanks all

Had the stuck brake pad pin problem happen to me. Look up my post titled: "Brake Caliper Retaining Pin-rounded socket head". Also, check out post on :"Drilling out sheared off bolts".

I was in a rush... I went out to a bike meet - Triumph Owners meeting going to a bike night by the sea side....didn't really have the time to do a search.
Spoken to my dad since and I think I may have nearly rounded the hex holes. NO I know they are not the nearly perfect hex they were this morning. Gonna order a set of replacement bolts now while I think about it (well get him to order a set from the dealer up there) and so when I do finally bugger em up I already have the pins to replace them.

Is "PB Blaster" sold in the UK? It is a pentrating fluid and works better than anything else I've ever used. I just did my rears and while they were stubborn, they loosened and came out.

Kroil, "the oil that creeps" works better than PB, in IMHO. Try a little anti-sieze on the threads when installing. A little. About every 3 pad changes, order a new set of pins.....

Hope you put a touch of coppercoat on the threads of the pins as you put them back G
