Great work Bob. Love the headlight and the risers. Never asked this before...what were your tools of choice to enlarge the holes so the riser bolts would fit?
Ever thought of taking off the fork shrouds to compliment the thinned down look you have now with the headlight/bars/mini bullets/speedometer? If you want to stay with chrome, you can find stylish dust covers for 41mm forks instead of gaiters.

SalMaglie - A large drill bit, I forget the size, cut right through the aluminum. Also had to use a 1" S&D bit to cut out a 1/2" deep recess for the collar on the risers. Had to also buy shorter bolts.
Do you know if the forks are chrome undernerath the shrouds? I have thought it would look cool with the shrouds removed. Thinking it would be a good winter project.

Thanks for the info. I'd really like to get some pullback risers for my bike.
Yep, just chrome tubes all the way down to the fork legs. I went with gaiters.

(as I proudly puff my chest out to get the full effect)...that's my bike on Brent's site to advertise the gaiters he sells.

Yeah, that "thin look" looks great. I would imagine you need to take apart the front end to remove the shrouds.
By the way, I used the original handlebars with the pull back risers to begin with, but it set me back too far, and all my weight was on my tailbone. Hurt my back. Thus the need for the drag bars.

Yeah, but it's not that bad of a job. After doing all you have, it'd be a piece of cake for you to strip them off.

Frank- Tied into the wiring loom in the headlight bucket - 1 wire for each turn signal. The new wire is exposed, but it is small, you can hardly see it. The original turn signal wires unplug at the signal. You can stick the unused wire back into the switch housing.

Sal, I used V-Twin type risers, so I needed to drill-out the 10mm holes in the top clamp to 1/2". Used a drill press.
Bob, did the DS speedo mate to the stock Bonnie cable? Do you recall what ratio the speedo is?

Hey, Bob... Your scoot looks great!! Question: Did you have to do any thing "special" to get the new headlight to fit? The one's I see advertised appear to be for a narrower mounting bracket than ours?!?!

Melvin - Speedo ratio is 2240:60.
Mike - You have to replace the headlight mount block. Most headlight housings have a 3/4" spread on the mounting tabs. There is a wide variety of shapes and sizes of mount blocks available from J&P Cycle, Drag Specialties and Custom Chrome.

Which vintage grips from the Harley catalogue are these that will fit our Speedy/America bars. Their catalogue lists 2 OEM grips - 5000005 For 1973-95 controls (OEM 56275-96) $39.99 5000705 For 1996-2006 controls (OEM 56276-96) $39.99

jaymo54 - I used the 73-95 grips. Fits and works fine. I had to dremmel out some of the plastic material on the HD throttle grip so it fits and operates smoothly.

Yes the forks are chrome under the shrouds, but without them the bottom tripple tree looks too big for my taste. I wound up poslishing the shrouds and putting them back on. You might like the look. My Harley friend is still giving me crap for putting them back.

That might look good. I thought about removing the uppers and leaving the lowers...definitely some possibilities here. Are there any pics of Jaymo's?

Tim;
The wires had enough slack in them so I could relocated them to under the tank. Kind of a lot of wires stuffed under there, but it worked out okay.

Hey Bob, Is your speedo indication correct? the reason I ask is there are several postings on this board that state they ordered the 2:1 ratio. since there is an inconsistancy there I am wondering which is the closest to the correct indication. Thanks Tmax ps. wanting to order the mini speedo soon.

Tim; The Speedmaster/America OEM Speedo ratio is 2240:60. I would think the 2.1 ratio speedo would be off by quite a bit. Don't know which way it would read - fast or slow.
My new speedo seems closer to the truth that the original one. When riding along side another bike it reads less than 5% slower instead of the 10% or more on my OEM speedo.

If you divide it out, the Triumph drive is really 37 1/3:1. I have no idea what they were thinking of, 1:1 and 2:1 drives have worked just fine for many decades. Must be some kind of conspiracy, maybe to do with the French (spit) plot to metricalize the world.

That is a really random number... Ratios are ratios, nothing metric or Imperial or whatever, but that is weird...
