Since a lot of us have the new Triumph Engine Guards in place, I thought it's time for a Thread on the addition of Highway Pegs. Myself and others have encountered fit and room issues with the pegs we've tried and this can lead to expensive mistakes if we're not careful...so I'll post photo's and thoughts on my second attempt in a few moments.

My first set of highway pegs were the Kuryakyn Dually pegs with Long Horn mounts. They looked great and the peg gave a large foot pad. However, they were too large and really interfered with toe movement around the shifter and brake lever. Dangerous. Off they came.

I then ordered and now use the Kuryakyn Retro Pegs with Magnum Clamps and Offset Mounts. The retro pegs are 5 1/4" long and 1 3/4" deep, giving an adequate foot rest area and the shallow depth give extra toe room. And you won't see these pegs on every street corner. The Off Set mount adds extra length to the peg and rotates in a 4 1/2" circle, giving an infinite number of placement positions. The chrome finish is second to none.

My Magnum Clamps are mounted fairly high on the engine guard, with the Off Set mounts angled down and slightly forward of the engine guard. After a couple rides and some tweaking of the peg position, I can comfortably stretch my legs out with a slight bend to the knees. I have a 30" inseam. This allows me to lean back on the Corbin backrest....so I now have a great cruiser. There's enough toe clearance so I'm not constantly getting caught up in the shifter or brake levers.

The problem as I see it does not lie with the highway peg choice.....but with Triumphs engine guard design. The guard is compact and looks good on the bike, however, it forces you to place the highway pegs and mounts directly over the shifter and brake lever with very little clearance for your toes. I also use the Triumph floorboards with a heel/toe shifter which further restricts foot movement. My boot size is 8 and when placed on the shifter side, it's locked in between the front and rear shifter pegs. Very little wiggle room. Those with larger boot sizes would probably be better off with just a toe shifter. The brake floorboard works without restriction.

I also changed out the original shifter pegs to the Kuryakyn Retro shifter pegs to complete the look. These pegs mount with a bolt through the back of the shifter arm, so you have to drill out the original threads with a 7/16"th drill to let the bolt pass through. Add some locktite.

So, I've completed my search for the perfect highway pegs and I'm happy with my choice. This is strictly my opinion. I hope this thread will encourage others to explain and illustrate their choice of highway pegs, so we all can make an informed choice. Don

I like the dually pegs but then I have the adjustment "full out" for as much leg room as I can get hence no interference with the controls. My feet are way out there

Don, you obviously have done a lot of research here to achieve what I think are very nice practical and aesthetic results.

First off, the Kury retro pegs look real smart and the off set mounts are great too as they offer the 4 1/2" circle adjustment for different positioning.

I also give a for your choice of shifter pegs and to continue the theme, the brake cover finishes off the package very nicely indeed.

So if you don't mind Don, I might just steal all your ideas Pal cos virtually all the hard yards are done for me other than picking some nice pegs to suit. How good's that

So given the greatest games of all are just around the corner, give that man a gold medal I say

Don, great write up. I'm glad you found a setup that works for you. I also invested time and money looking for something that I felt was comfortable. Sorry to say it just never worked out for me.
I never liked how high up the hwy pegs needed to mount to clear shifter and brake levers. also felt they were just to close in, I just could not stretch out.
I'm 6' with a 33" inseam.

+1 Great write up. I also didnt like the fit. Im 6-0 to 6-1 (depends on which doctor I go to...lol). Just not comfortable for me AND my heel from my 10.5 boot kept pressing agains the brake so I was ****** people off.

Thanks for the info.

I'm 6'0" with a 34" inseam and a 10.5 boot also. My favorite color is chrome and if selected, I will work to end world hung.... er, wait a minute...

Actually, I have the triangular guards on my bike with floorboards and I have examined the possibilities of highway pegs on the guards and it just ain't gonna work for me. The position would be that of an inverted constipated frog, to borrow an expression....

However, Kuryakyn has "switchblade" footpegs. I'm thinking along that same line about possibly adding a kick-out extension to the footboards. Something that would let me rest my feet out further and outside the brake and shifter control. Just an idea that I haven't pursued yet. Maybe one of our innovative vendors might pick this up and run with it.....
