I bought the River Road XL Saddlebags and EZ brackets. One of the bags has fallen off while riding TWICE. The key lock doesnt appear to be very snug and actually moves. Plus, the saddlebags fold in towards the tire and have beer resting on the shock on the left side and the chain guard on the right. The one on the left has worn a hole in the bag already. They only have 200 miles on them. Too late to send them back and what did I do wrong?

Today is Thank a Soldier Day. Please celebrate all day long.

How old are your easybrackets? My hardbag came off once (see link below) and I had the old style. They didn't pay to have my bag repaired or replaced, but they sent me all new locks and the redesign latch that bolts on the end of the lock. So far, so good.

This is what it looked like after I put it back on, before repairing and repainting.

I can't speak to the lock issue as mine have been working well since installation. I thought the EZ bracket mounting plate was too small so I added an aluminum plate cut to the inside dimension of the bag and bolted the bracket through the bag and the plate (plate inside the bag) to reinforce the soft side and have had no sag issues.

Dumb question, but where did you get the aluminum plate? I tried working with some acrylic and couldn't get it to work

Thanks!!

Mine take a little finagling to get nestled in so the lock will turn far enough to get the key out. then I know they are locked in place. I wonder if you can find some aluminum at your local farm and fleet or fleet farm or tractor supply type of store. Acrylic might work if it was 1/4 inch thick thin plywood would probably break eventually especially if you load em down.

I used the blade of an old drywall T square for the bags on my previous bike.

I had the bike friendly machinist at the local shop cut it out of some spare stock for me while I was at work. Cost about $14 for the pair of plates.

I bought some black plexiglass from the glass shop near me and cut it to the shape of the back of the bags. (leather bags) Bolted the bags to the EZ Brackets with the plexi on the outside, it isn't noticeable since the black blends in and works very well. I have never had an issue with the brackets themselves. Sheet aluminum and steel can be had at Ace and True Value hardware stores.
