I'm getting back onto 2 wheels after quadmobiling since the seventies. My dealer has the America I want and it's on sale (a few hundred bucks off), I imagine to make room for the 2009.

I'd like to wait for the fuel injection, but I'm not sure if it's better to save the $ and go with the 2008 carburated or wait. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Billy

most people on here including myself will say get the carbs. I dont think fuel injection is worth waiting a year for. If youre a guy that likes to tinker a bit with his ride and not pay the dealer tons of money, you probably want the carbs.

If youre the type that "doesnt wanna touch it", then you'd like the fuel injection.

I myself dont like the fact that I cant really fix my truck myself because theres too many electronic do-dads to screw up...thats why I like my motorcycles with simplicity. A couple tools to open the carbs up on the side of the road and be on my way. Not a bill to tow it to the dealer and have them "look at it"

Also Im sure that louder pipes and performance modifications will be a bit tricky with fuel injection set up...if youre into that sorta thing

I like these things to be simple. After hearing that all '09s will be EFI, I hurried to close the deal on a '08.

Good replies, but if simple is your thang! EFI has been around for ages. Smooth throttle response and from everything I read better fuel mileage.

That being said these bikes are very easy to maintain so if the savings are great and you like the bike(in other words not just settling for left over) I say go for it.

What part of Tn are you in?

Mike,

I'm in Franklin, just south of Nashville, and you?

The closest dealer is Castle in Madison and they have the 2008 NE white I want in stock. They said it's on sale - about $500 below list. Haven't checked with Knoxville or Chattanooga, but I'd like to stay semi-local if possible.

Bill, I'm in Knoxville. The Chattanooga dealer has closed.
I would suggest you stay close to home with the purchase.
Destination Motorcycles is my local dealer. I was in the shop about two weeks ago and he had two America and one Speedy on the floor. They are very proud of their stuff if you catch my drift.
Good luck to you and drop me a line if you head east.
Mike

The '08s have been in high demand, especially the blue/whites. I was only able to locate two in all of Texas this month, and the nearer of the two dealers wouldn't negotiate at all. In fact, he wanted more than MSRP. I trailered mine back from Dallas about three weeks ago, and I paid only a little under list. One week later, through an odd conincidence, I discovered that the first one had sold within a few days of my inquiry. I don't know how well these bikes sell in TN, but I wouldn't wait too long if you've found one that you like.

i just slapped a deposit down on the 2009, which should arrive in august. and, there wasn't even any discussion about whether i was paying list or not, it was just written up that way, lol..

i want the efi, so that i don't have to mess with anything. i'm planning some trips into the mountains, and i live at sea level now. i don't want to have to worry about tinkering with my fuel mixtures as i climb in elevation, i'd rather just have a sensor and chip do all of that for me. and, it also means that i don't have to 'winterize', i don't have to 'choke', and if i understand it right, i shouldn't have to worry as much if i do happen to change my exhaust out. let the computer do your math.

Having had the carb model and now the EFI model, I am finding that the smoothness is a lot better on the EFI. The petrol consumption is better, I know the tank is 3 litres bigger and even taking that into account more miles to the gallon.

One thing that is bugging me though is you cannot blip the throttle when you are changing down, the engine just dies. Also I have this really annoying clicking when I shut off the throttle which is bugging me. I have arranged for it to the dealer and I will take out an america EFI to see if that does the same.

I have put on TOR's, K&N air filter and had the bikes tune updated by the dealer at no charge, this has been a big improvement over the sewing machine it was when I bought it. The good thing is no playing around with jets, mixture screws etc, but if like to tinker go for the carb version.

It is pretty neat how they have kept the look of the carb though and has people baffled.

A lot of good points. I live the hills of TN and will make trips to sealevel and the mountains often.

My dealer told me he wouldn't get his 2009s until October - probably just a sales pitch since Triumph Atlanta said they'd be available in August. I'll have to check around. List price sounds OK to me, too, although the 2008 is on sale below list. Time will probably dictate which I wind up with since the 2008 won't be around for long and I'm not ready to buy for about 4 more weeks.

Thanks for the info.

Billy
