Anyone have a part number for NAPA or whatever for a freeze plug that will snug into the header crossover chop ?

Parts place gives me this " what year and model ? " stuff . I wish I could just rummage through a pile of plugs , I'd find 'em .

They're too flush to the header tube for the rubber expandable plugs .

I turned the freeze plugs around backwards and used them like a cap then welded in place. I ran a bead all the way around the plug with my mig to ensure a full seal and no chance of losing it. I got mine at Napa and they let me try them until I found what I wanted. I don't have the part number anymore but if I get a chance and if I remember , remind me if I don't get back to you in a week or so I'm very busy this time of year, I'll run down and try them all again and tell you what fit. I still have the cross over pipes I cut off to take down and test fit.

Buy a 1 1/4 plug, when I went to buy one at the parts store he said he had shallow and deep, bought the deep one. its maybe an 1/2 deep. Pulled the right header off put red high temp. around inside of pipe used a socket that fits inside the freeze plug and tapped it in until it stopped. Put it back together. Done

Beautiful stories , but unless one has a part number or some gracious parts guy lets one go back and rummage through the plugs , it's all academic .
These new parts places with their monitors - aaaarrrgggghhh !

The place I went into went back and came with a bin type box the size of a shoe box in the box were smaller boxes that had 1 1/8, 1 1/4 deep, 1 1/4 shallow. Tell him to look up a freeze plug any one and go back to that area and the rest of the freeze plugs will be there and look on the end of the box for one that says 1 1/4. and bring it too you.

All right now, its not where I bought mine but just went up to Advance Auto walked in said I was looking for a 1 1/4 freeze plug, he asked shallow or deep. Walks back to a slide out tray. pick up a few that are connected with plastic and pulls one off brings it up Made by Dorman part number 362647.1 and says 1 1/4 right on the package. I'd try another parts store like Auto Zone or Advance Auto or Federated if he can't just walk back an get you one. I think mine was like .73 cents with tax. Also you can try it without replacing the copper seal at the top of the header but if its leaking you need to replace it. Torque on header bolts is 19Nm.

Thanks , Phil . Now I can go boldly to the counter and demand a 362647.1

I don't believe there is personally. I did mine and Wendys and all it did was change the exhaust note some. It split the sound up so you hear each pipe more than a blended sound. Made each cyl. have a more crisp pop when it fires and to me that was worth the effort but maybe not to others. I didn't notice any performance change either way although I didn't dyno it before and after.

Robert , don't block the crossover if you have restrictive pipes , only if you have open pipes . Ditto on the no appreciable gains , just a little better exhaust note .

In practice on some engines, you will lose a little torque. I suspect on these engines, where the crossover pipe is it won't be much. Only a dyno knows for sure.

I don't think you lose anything as long as the pipes are pretty much open but I could be wrong since as I said I didn't dyno it. Seat of the pants I didn't notice anything though.By the same token I didn't seem to gain anything either as I said before.
