I made the (stupid, stupid, stupid) mistake of leaving the key in the ignition, power on, all night last night.
I removed the seat, the little side panel/"chrome" piece and the battery cover to get to the battery. I planned on removing it to hook it up to the charger and did everything but disconnect the terminals, but the battery seems TOTALLY stuck in one place. I can't get it to wiggle even a little bit. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Did I miss another point of attachment?
I hooked the charger up to the dead battery without removing it from the bike and I've ordered a new battery from Brent (figured it was time anyway-- '03 TBA / manufacture date of 10/02) just in case the charger doesn't work.
Thanks for the help.

Drew

IF it makes you feel better, I'ce charged mine on the bike... But hmmmm trying to remember... I think it takes some fenagling. If you bike is stock, IE no freak, there's the chrome fake air cleaner, side panel, and battery strap/cover, right? That should do it, but those battery terminal wires are real stiff, so disconnecting them might do the trick.

Thanks for the input. There's a little play in the terminal wires, so I don't think its them-- the battery seems glued down.
Anyway, I'm happy to report the battery took the charge and that I just got back from a nice little ride.
I'll worry about getting the battery out when I replace it with the new one-- maybe next spring.
later-

Those things are in super tight with practically zero wiggle room. Keep trying, it will come out. Guess they were using that extra room for the tool kit. Oops, we don't have a tool kit, !@# Triumph!

The wires do have play, but you'd be surprised how much easier it is without them attached. Glad to hear the charge took!! Make sure it still starts tomorrow:) I had that prob with a dead battery. Charge it, get it going, stop only for gas, but the next day, nuttin.

The battery has a hard time clearing the bottom tray's lip. Flex upward on the top strap while you sort-of rock the battery lee to starboard and lift up and out. Just pulled mine yesterday without removing the cables. Be careful on the positive terminal. Best to disconnect the neg first! But you knew that! Goop up the leads with dielectric grease next time you are there.

Take off everything that you listed, park the bike on a slope with the side(kick) stand down then turn your back on it. I can guarantee that within 2 seconds the battery will be lying on the floor! At least that was what happened to me. Fortunately there was no damage to the casing so didnt have to get new one.

Uh, no. I didn't know that. Glad I didn't mess with it because I would have probably done it wrong. That's why I keep my wrenching to a minimum-- I don't know what the heck I'm doing.
Thanks for the knowledge!

Reason you disconnect the neg terminal first is so you don't spot weld your wrench should you ground it when loosening the positive lead. All batteries follow the same protocol. Jump starting a car. The neg gets hooked up last, better if the neg cable is attached to a good ground away from the battery too.
