Just had the bike serviced... service manager said "you should really get your valves/lifters adjusted, they're really loud". I said I just had them adjusted in December when the bike got fixed from when the stupid lady ran over it when it was parked in the pub parking lot. He looked up in the records and said "Hum, I see that they did". Then he didn't mention that they needed adjusting again. Problem is now that he mentioned it they do seem rather loud and "clackey". Could they really need adjusting again this soon... I hope not cause that adjustment wasn't cheap.

I know a guy that scribes the inside of the cam cover noting that he was in there. You can only trust the dealer's service department as far as the degree that you know the mechanic wrenching on your sickle. Valves are a very easy way for them to skimp. Heck any job that you, as the owner, cannot readily check by looking at something, will usually have the dealer saying, not doing. Thus, Kah'ching Clack clack clack.
If you don't feel comfortable about adjusting the valves yourself, you may feel comfortable with checking the clearances. Do so before and after service. That is the only way you will know that the clearances are within specs. Stealerships usually have a 30 day warranty on service. Ensure the motor is dead cold too.

One possibility is they never put the split cam gears under tension again after pulling the pin to adjust the valves. Had that happen to me at a POS dealer, then had to have it re-done at another dealer.

i've been noticing a "peck" in my motor,, thought at first it was an exhaaust leak from when i put some bubs on,,just changed to tors and the peck is still there. the bike has 3300 miles on it,,reckon mine is out of spec valves also??? i have a trustworthy shop [actually 2] with-in 40-50 miles,,,sure is a hassle to get the bike there, and home.
