I'm looking for an option to help keep windblast off my hands for when it gets cold again. I may install power heated grips or finally break down and get heated gloves but am looking for something to keep the wind off my knuckles as well. I'm either thinking of something along the lines of clear hand deflectors that you can get for most metric cruisers (for example, see the bottom of this page: http://www.scootworks.com/shop.cgi/page=partswindshieldskaw.htm/SID=1215995170.8655Or a windscreen that has a wide flaired portion that extends out over the hands - something like this (but perhaps marginally less fugly: http://www.cyclestuffusa.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=12873Has anyone installed anything like this? Thoughts on effectiveness?

I did look at some version of those clear deflector things but I figured they wouldn't fit.

I run the hippo hands here in CT for Winter riding. Yes they're buttfugly, but who cares what others think? They work extremely well down to 20F, which is about my lower limit to ride. (Gettin' old I spose) I do have concerns over the right side unit pressing down on the brake lever due to wind at highway speeds though. I'm of a mind that the brake light may be on while riding. Can't screw my neck around far enough to tell. Maybe Linda Blair wants to go for a ride?

Cold weather riding really numbs the hands quick, then everything else. Although I haven't sprung for these yet, I hear heated grips/gloves and a heated vest are the cat's meow. Gerbing makes a great vest.

What are you trying to say?It sometimes gets cold in Vegas...Last year it snowed on the strip (for about 6 minutes).  All I am trying to say is that there has to be a better option than the Hippo.I know not all riders are blessed with year round riding conditions and they need to extend the riding season... but this?...

My thoughts too. I haven't ridden in Canada, but I WISH I had something like that when I rode to Vermont in November!! I had to stop every half hour and basically grab my headers...
The right heated gloves will work, as long as THEY provide good wind protection. Otherwise it's hippo hands or those plastic "shield" things. All the nay sayers feel free to MAKE a "better option" suggestion, since there HAS to be a better option...

If you don't block the wind over your hands, no heated grips or gloves are going to keep your hands from numbing up when it's really cold. As far as extending the riding season, if a fleece-lined tarp with 2 eye holes in it gave me a few extra days I'd consider it.... Some of the best riding is when it's crisp and cold and all the cagers are saying "brrrr, it's too cold to go out".

I just wear snowboard gloves. Mine have an inner silk type material which is supposed to work good for cold conditions because the fibers are really fine or something. Keeps the hands from sweating too, which you dont wanna do either.

I use my snowmobile gloves, but the wife has issues with cold hands even into June, so I'm thinking heated grips would help her out. I mean with the sleds, we can be out in serious below zero weather with much lighter gloves and we are moving right along.
