My motorcycle keyring is starting to get out of control. I just installed my Corbin which brings my number of keys to various things on my bike up to 6. Ignition, fork, helmet, disc brake, Easy Brackets, Corbin seat lock. I could see myself adding another key by maybe getting a locking gas cap. A while back I got a quickconnect that I can use to detach my motorcycle ring from my main one (house, truck) so I don't have to carry them if I'm not riding but my most recent accessories keep adding more weight to my pocket. I don't need them all the time but I'd rather have them and not use them then want to lock/unlock something and not have the key.

The disc brake lock and helmet lock were both made by the same manufacturer and they're the ones that Brent carries (Dura-lock I believe). They both use the same size key but have different lock/key numbers. If anyone is willing I'd be happy to trade you a lock of the same item if it matches the keys I've got so I can use the same key for both locks. Let me know and we can swap numbers. For example, I've got a helmet lock with key #1 and DB lock with key #2 (hypothetical #s). I'll trade my equivalent lock for a helmet lock #2 or a DB #1. I hope this makes sense, I need to hit the sack...

I didn't ask for it but they put it on. Maybe it's a new feature to keep these expensive goodies on your bike and not someone else's. I did get the gunfighter seat so I don't know if that's standard for that style of seat. I had to replace the post that my stock seat attached to with a post that Corbin supplied with the seat and the lock operates a cable like the stock gunfighter seat.

Man, can i ever relate ! Got four bike keys and my car and house and other keys are too much to add the bike keys too unless i get a bag to carry them around ! And because if the bike keys are on the same rign as the ignition key, the others hang down and eat away at the bike frame, so i have to have that seperate. So i have all my bike keys on a ring except the ignition which stays by itself, then my car house and other keys on thier own ring. It's like a ****** tap dance every time i wanna move the car, unlock the bike, and dig out the ignition key to start it ! All because of unscrupulous thieving bastages !

Interesting... I am guessing it is a gunfighter thing as it is a one piece seat and easier to steal which kinda segues to Anonymous's post:

I hate thieves. Literally. One of these days I will encounter one of these cowards and they will definitely rue the day.

Anyway..., I solved the multitude key problem like Greg did with one of those quick disconnect keyrings (found a very nice stout one at ACE Hardware). I keep my ignition key on one ring and all the rest of the crap on the other end. When riding, all I have on the bike is the key, a small ring, and the fairly small connector. It works as I have no scratches/scrapes anywhere near there...

Oh yeaaaaa ! Vandals too, same thing really. I had my 2 week old accord keyed a year ago. Mad doesn't begin to describe how i felt. I honestly felt if i'd encountered him during the act i'd have literally killed him. i had zero control of myself at that moment. When i found it i was pacing back and fouth like a caged animal and truly out of my mind. these people need to be punished to a far far far greater degree than the law ever would.

I hear ya bro. I have ignition, fork lock, grifter lock, EZ brackets, disc lock, helmet lock... what else... When I first got my bike I separated my house keys from my car keys because I needed the house, but not the bulky car key fob when riding, so I have 3 rings going as it is... But I am considering a disconnect thing too.

Yup know what it is like keys for the house, keys for the ute, keys for work, keys for my other bike and lastly keys for the Speedy. I tend to keep all the keys separate on my belt (it just means I sound like a jail warden) as the only thing I like to have hanging off the ignition key on any of my bikes. The Speedy only has the key and the bike alarm on the ring so there is no weight on the ignition at all.

I can't believe I waited so long to get my Corbin. The ride this morning was even better than normal. I can't wait to put some real miles on it instead of just my daily commute. The new seat is about an inch lower and I could get my butt into the curves a lot better than I could with my stock seat. I only ordered it 2 weeks ago! I kept the seat pretty simple and I guess this is the time of year when their orders slow down a little. I felt like a kid at Christmas when I came home yesterday and saw it on my doorstep.

Phil,
I started off with just my ignition key on the quickconnect but my main ring was growing so fast that I decided to keep all my bike keys on one and my house/cage keys on the other. I also have my helmet lock right below my ignition so they have something to rest on and it keeps them from flapping too much. I haven't seen any scrapes on the frame yet. I could always make a wrap of electrical tape where they have the possibility of touching the frame to keep them from scratching it.

That is a great way to describe it! You are more a part of the motorsickle than a bump on top of it. Corbin saddlery allows us to get in the groove!

Dang Greg, I thought MY key chain with three keys was outa control. Ignition, steering lock, and ez brackets. The left rear peg hanger takes a beating, but what the heck!

PS: Steaks and potatoes. RU German?! Sounds like a meal to me!

I keep all of my extra keys on a separate ring in my purse. (Oh yeah, you probably don't have a purse!)
Seriously though, the 2 part key key rings work really well. You can separate the keys you don't need and keep them in your pocket.

Hmm, lessee, fork, ignition, Easy Brackets, Grifter documents box... Only 4 keys, I still have a way to go to catch up. I'm working on a way to put a lock on the tool box, that will add a fifth one.

Reminds me though, the OL's bike has barrel lock for ignition and the fork lock. Anybody know if it's possible to get the Easy Bracket locks re-keyed to match?

Kathy,
Wow. You actually carry a purse when you ride? I guess I am going to apologize to Lynn. She has a purse over her shoulder when riding with me. I says to her, aren't you worried about losing the purse? What if the strap breaks, what if the wind blows it off your arm? Lynn politely tells me to stifle it. I guess I am not too learned about them there purses!

Riding as a passenger do you or would you wear open faced shoes?

Yeah they do feel comfortable, I did 7 hours in the saddle on Monday with only stops for gas and a quick lunch. But I should have put this in the Corbin thread back to keys...

I got;
1. bike
2. fork
3. ghost brackets
4. disc lock
5. padlock
6. house

...may be I need a purse too. (Don't say it Pat!!)

I was joking. I was joking. Honestly. A purse? Come on now. And even if I did it would be a manly purse. Something made out of a freshly killed animal, with my own hands of coarse. Some deadly animal like...a...chipmunk, but a rabid chipmunk with huge fangs and claws. Yeah, that's it, a rabid large toofed, razor clawed killer chipmunk purse.

Besides if I got the pink shirt it wouldn't match my ensemble.

A purse wouldn't be too bad....I'd have a place for my keys, smokes & pistol. I bet we could get Brent to come up with some pink newspeedy.com purses.

Perhaps an extremely dangerous rabbit with huge teeth and its white fur and....what, what, it would do you ... look at the bones..... You don't want a purse... then you will need matching heels ( not good on a motorcycle), earrings, broach, and a frilly summer dress ( definitely not good on a bike, if you're a guy ). And don't even get me started on the make up........ Ride safe..... Gordon

1 Ignition Key
1 Padlock key for saddlebags (same key works all four locks)
1 Fork lock key (never used)
I installed a garage door opener button on my side panel, gets me in the house without a key. (key hidden outside) No marks on the peg cover and no pocket bulge, er, well you know what I mean.

Women carry purses, men have jackets. The only keys on my bike key ring are for the ignition and fork lock. I keep my other set of keys in my jacket along with my cell phone, smokes and ocasionally my camera, check book and/or mp3 player.

On the other hand there is the SOB down the street that regularly parks his Honda (car) across the sidewalk rather than in the street or further into his driveway (there is plenty of room) thus requiring pedestrians to walk through the mud hole that has developed due to his being an inconsiderate jerk. If someone wants to key his car that would be fine with me.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
