So, I talked to my dealer today and he told me that he would need the serial # of my engine in order to match up the proper clutch/case cover? Claimed there are two different types that go on the speedmasters and americas, something about re-routing oil paths? Anyone know of such silliness?

They did change them, I don't know what year. The vent tube that stays in the cover when removed (like on my '05) apparently stays on the engine on later models.

The early models have a centrifugal type crankcase ventilation system. The crankcase was later revised to accommodate the more effective labyrinth system indicated by the thicker case side under the left carb. They will also have the boss cast into the center top of the crankcase to be used for the crankshaft position sensor on the FI models.

I think the change was the starter idler gear mount. They put webbing on it so it wouldn't break. I am not aware of any other difference but above the clutch on the top main case there is a casting on newer bikes that isn't on my 04. I don't know what that is but it could possibly effect the primary cover if there is a passage there or something mounted to it inside.

From what the dealer told me, there wasn't a specific year that Triumph used one cover or the other. He just claimed that they used two different ones.

The black cases I got are from an 04, so I think I should be good.
