Shorter Kickstand needed after lowering?

I am in the process of lowering my America via Progressive Front Springs and Shorter Rear shocks. I have seen a couple of references from people that have also lowered their bikes related to the kickstand.

My question is twofold:
1. Is a shorter kickstand needed after lowering the bike?
2. What options exist for a replacement kickstand that is shorter?

Thanks,
Steven

Although I have read posts of other members using a shorter kickstand, I’ve had my bike lowered for about 2 years now and still use the original kickstand without any problems.

I haven't checked to see if the Triumph sidestand is steel or amuminum, but if it's steel, you should be able to heat it with a torch and bend it a bit. The Piglet was lowered some 4 inches and the stand heated and bent some 15 years ago and there have been no problems with it.

I had mine lowered, front and back.
This required a shorter sidestand.

So far it appears that some think it needs to be shorter and some think that it is ok as is.

I'm probably not going to mess with the original trying to bend it. So, what options exist out there for a shorter kickstand that will work on the America?

Thanks,
Steven

I believe you can get them from Great Bay Cycle in North Hampton, NH. They lower alot of Americas and Speedy's and they told me they put new kickstands on them. I bet if you called them they would sell you one.

I saw one lowered bike pic. There was a helmet under the show side. I guess just in case.

It's been about 3 months since I lowered the bike and so far I have had no problem with the stock stand. I do need to be a little more careful about where and how I park, but I don't consider this to be a problem.

Parallel parking on a street that has a slight down slope towards the curb is one circumstance where a shorter stand would come in handy.

I talked to GreatBay today, they said they use a Legend TT stand. But,you have to be off the bike to put it up and down. There is no way to catch it with your toe to bring it down when your sitting on the bike. -Tommy

I also just got off the phone with them . I ordered the legend kickstand from them as well as the rest of the lowering kit .. Like $70 for the stand ... And as you stated, they told me that lowering the stand is a bit quirky ...

Tatkin,

J&P sells kickstand extensions for Sportsters. Don't know if it'll help but may give you some ideas. Here is the link.

I purchased the front and rear lowering kit from GB and installed the rear shocks and just the progressive front springs only(no lowering in the front). If you do this you will not need to get a different side stand. I am going to run this way for awhile and see how I like the slight rake on the bike. So far so good. Vegas

Vegas,

When I originally lowered my bike I only lowered the rear for about the first 6 months. I thought it rode really well, that is until I also lowered the front. Believe me you can really feel the difference in the ride. The bike rides better with both the front and rear lowered, and I'm still using my original kickstand. It works fine and I've never felt the need to change it to a shorter one.

Fred, did you drop the front one or two inches? Looks like one would just about get it level. Do you have a hard time R&R the dampner rod? Thanks for the help. Vegas

We lowered our America 2-1/2" in the rear, and 1-3/4" in the front last year. No need as yet for a different side stand. Just use a little more caution when parking.
