Funny how 232 years will change your attitude Great news, our British cousins have decided to have a first class navy again. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scotti...86908-20630689/
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

1,500 crew? Don't most of the US fleet carry as many as 5,000 per carrier?

Yes they do. The Brits carrier will be about 2/3 the size of a Nimitz class and carry less than half as many aircraft. But, it will still be a very powerful warship.

Well, with gas prices.....
On a related note, I happened upon an episode of "Carrier" on PBS the other night, and it was excellent. A surprisingly indepth look at life inside the US Navy.

Size isnt everything LOL
With the JSF on the way, and all the new modern missile technology, the ships dont need to be as big anymore.

I hope these are better built than the last British Engineering marvel aka T5 at Heathrow!!
Interesting, it looks like they will be conventional oil burners and not nuclear powered. I wonder how the current Prince of Wales feels about that aspect?
Still, it's good news for the UK and the Scots!
Blue/White 2007 TBA, Thruxton needles, Unifilter, AI removed, Polaris Bellmouth, Bubs, Nology Coils/wires, Lightbar, Ricor Intiminators, Hagon Nitros, Tall Sissy Bar w/luggage rack, Dart flyscreen & Lowers. 130 Mains, TrueGel Battery MG12-BS.

Call me a cynic but whats the betting that the delivery date keeps getting put back, it goes over budget and we have to keep it in dock for 11 months a year because we don't have enough matelots to crew it.
Couldn't we just have gone on ebay bought an old carrier and done it up?
That way we could save a few quid and spend it wisely on something like a giant upturned wok in Greenwich, more speed cameras or maybe even some more managers in the NHS.
Before the war on terror, if I saw an unattended package I used to think "I'll be having that!"

I've always liked the idea of their small carriers, small but able to put up a good air supremacy force. If you had several working together you'd get overlapping field of force.
I see their new supercarrier will still have the ski jump at the end of the flight deck. Always liked that too, innovative thinking when you have to get something done.

I think an Island nation with a 100s of yr naval history, Should be capable of deciding how best to upgrade it's fleet.
The percentage you're paying is too high-priced
While you're living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams

I'm sure we could have sold them the Kitty Hawk and Constellation for a good price. They're almost 50 years old but I bet they have a few miles left on them.
