So I pick it up in the morning, I will then be able to checkout the differences between EFI and carb models having ridden it home around 50 miles. I intend to take some photos and post on here tomorrow, will also be looking at taking out the AI, but believe their is a little more to it than there was with the carb models. Will also take notes on what differences Triumph have fitted as standard from my 04

So pick the bike up, the suttle differences I have noticed are the pipes the lamba sensor and a cat in each pipe. Incidently if you remove the AI, which apparently runs from 12V these days it screws the cat up. Covers covering the coils, which again are different. Under the seat see photo, I have not got a clue what half of that lot is. I also tried to take the tank off. You have a fuel line from the centre of the tank, which I could not undo and a 12V connection, which I will presume is for the pump inside the tank. The bike runs great and seems to have more power or is that just because I have gone from a 790 to 865 and as you would expect handles brilliantly. I just cannot get used to that riding position in between my shoulder blades is going metal. Throttle response seem to lack a bit, and if you blip the throttle before changing down sometimes it does nothing. There is a little play on the throttle itself though. I asked this and the dealer said they will go right through the bike when it returns for its 500 mile service. Trying to book it in for a service is a joke got the first date available which was the 18th, think I will have done a few more miles than 500 by then. It does look a little different now, put some of the bits on that I took off the America.. Oh nearly forgot the pipes have a rubber sxtop on them to stop the side stand hitting them

Some things to bare in mind, if buying second hand parts and you have an EFI.
Brents Clutch finisher does not fit. The Air dam will fit but you need to modify it slightly as the Lamba sensors are in the way, also on mine the main oil feed pipe is not in the center..

Hey nice bike! Do the black ones really go faster Ray?
I bet you are pleased as punch today mate - I would be.
Hope you don't have the same hassles as the last one.

Hi Ray, congrats on the new bike. The electrical connector is, as you said, for the pump and to remove the fuel line, get someone to hold the tank up for you and shine a torch up at the pipe in question. You'll find there's a clip that you pull or push sideways which in turn allows two small button type thingies (a technical term) either side of the fuel line to be compressed and the pipe pops right off with a gentle tug. It's difficult to explain but when you have a look and fiddle (more technical words) you'll see what I mean. Took me a while to figure out as well. all the best. John

I had actually moved that clip thingy to one side, but had the wife trying to hold the tank at the same time, which of course I had filled right up with gas... needs to come off to put the light bar back on..

I must admit, I was not keen when I first saw it but it is growing one me, no seems on it at all. But it does push your legs further apart while you are riding.
Will see if I can get some better pics tomorrow, but it has forecast rain all weekend here - New bike and its stuck in the garage

My son also complained that I shouldn't have filled the tank before I asked him to hold it. By the way, if I remove my neighbours AI will it screw her cats up and stop them doing whoopsies in my garden?

So your headers will turn blue pretty quick then? If you swap out the pipes or even remove the snorkel, will you have to get it re-mapped?

From what the dealer said, the pipes will turn blue if you leave the choke out too long as well,he said this is what the mechanics have been told by Triumph.
The AI is a bugger by the sounds of it, as you have the lamba sensors stuck out of the header pipes, should of taken a photo before I put the air dam on. Will see about taking some tomorrow.
you would have to swop the pipes to take out the catalytic converters on each pipe as well, otherwise without the AI it will bugger them up.
Think I will order a manual and have a bit of a read up, then make some telephone calls. He has advised to leave it as standard until the warranty has run out.

At the mo, the Triumph dealer can install a map for me if I want to use the off road pipes, it;s only $83.00

Had my TORs fitted from new, the re-map was included in the cost of the TORs. I've only managed about 800 miles so far but the outside of the twin wall pipes has no sign of blueing, as yet. I've found with the EFI bike you don't need to use the "choke" except in really cold weather.

Out of curiosity what did the dealer charge you for remapping with the TORs

Originally the TORs were the only accessory the dealer was going to fit for me and they quoted £250 which they said included the re-map. As I was also buying a lot of other parts they told me there would be no charge for fitting the pipes. As for getting a dog, I've always had one until we lost our last hairy friend 5 years ago. We'll have to wait until one of us retires before we can give a new pup the time and care they need. Still miss coming home and not being greeted by a smelly drooling hairy mate. I suppose I could re-kindle my friendship with a Harley rider from my Superglide days.

Looks a lot like we call an "Oxygen Sensor", or on the newer cars, and "Air-Fuel Ratio Sensor" (these have a heating element to enable a exhaust gas read on a cold start compensating for the difference in actual temp vs. normal operating temperature) - it sends data to the Engine Control Unit (ECU), allowing it to switch from richer mix to leaner mix, and back (all happening at thousands of times per second?) - it's all rocket science to me, but all in the interest of lower emissions.

Cheers Stephen, Covered the first 100 miles the majority of it two up with the mrs. seems to have plenty of power, even though not been over the 3000rpm yet. I cannot get used to the riding position though and it is killing my back, god knows how these people ride with these bars on or, or is it just me getting old. Got caught at Glasson Dock in the Thunder and Lightning yesterday, and yep it threw it down so its had its first bath. Just meant a good clean when I got home, which I may add is not a bad idea as you find out any problems with paint work etc. No did not find anything wrong. The tank is growing on me and that colour

The bike or M?!!
I know, she's gonna kill me!
I looked in the R3 handbook to see about running in speeds / revs.
It says ... "During the first 500 miles (800kms): . Do not use full throtle . Avoid high engine speeds at all times ..." yadda yadda
Then it made me laugh .. "From 500 to 1000 miles (800 - 1500kms): . Engine speed can gradually be increased to the rev limit for short periods ...."
Hit the revlimiter? Not yet I thank you very much!!

Hey I thought I was young
The reason being the speedy already had the twin discs and I had taken all the chrome bits off my America to fix onto the speedy. The bars was something I thought I mayhave to change and they are being sorted from Beamer in the US. Also will have to replace the throttle and clutch cable as well though..
Taken some pics today will post them up as soon as, the tank has been off thanks to Scouse for the assistance, the mrs could not quite hold it for long enough to fiddle about underneath..
It looks a nightmare underneath now with sensors everywhere, checkout the pics below

Bike looks great and looks like it was a beautiful day there in England.Sure looks like it's pretty over there when it's not raining. If you look at the aftermarket parts they are selling Ox.sensor bypass adapters so you can work around the EFI.Hopefully they come up with one for the Triumphs soon so you can play with your performance mods. One other thing, did they up the compression on the engine with the fuel injection? Seems like they could now since it is easier to meet pollution standards.I know I wish mine had more power since I twist the throttle and there's not anymore sometimes,I know the answer to this problem is just $$$$$ away.Good luck on the new ride I got over 44,000 miles on my "05" Speedmaster.I talked to a guy the other day with a Bonneville "04" who claims over 90,000 miles and no engine work.He also has it stock still, rare.Another thing too bad you got to run those big a$$ license plates, kind of negative for the looks of any bike.I know the lawman likes them so you got to run them.

Ray I know she is new,but when you get a real world gas mpg figure let us know.I am curious.I know everybodies fuel bills are crazy.I use to fill my car up for what it cost now to fill up the bike.I know your cost are even more,so I am curious if they improved it quiet abit with the EFI.I think we all might appriciate it Ray.Thanks and good luck with your new baby.

Tank capacity is now 19.5 litres and holds 3.5 in reserve (ie: when the light comes on) 114 mile so far and around half a tank left at the moment, but will check again as been taking it very easy on the throttle for now...
