I just picked up a used solo seat that came off an America. My Speedy has the stock roadster seat and the center mount is the little conical post. What do I need to do to convert to the solo? Does Triumph make a different bracket for the Speedmaster solo seat accessory kit?

I think you need to remove the cone shaped fastener and use a metric round headed bolt. One that uses an allen wrench

yes...remove it and then get a bolt that fits the hole.

I think it's M8 x 1.25 pitch... but don't quote me on that.

Doesn't the solo seat have a special bolt with a groove that the passenger pillion attaches to?

Yes it does as Moe showed us. But you'll only need it if you're going to put the passenger seat on. BTW - you CAN'T buy the special shoulder bolt separately from Triumph. Go figure...

The Speedmaster seat mount needs to be re-designed. It needs to be a bolt on plate utilizing the two smaller hex bolts, but with a center hole to allow access for the solo seat bolt hole. The conical post needs to then be a bolt with the same OEM conical post upper dimensions, but made longer and threaded so that it can mount into the same place as the solo seat bolt. The sides could be flattened to allow use of a wrench for tightening. This would allow us to quickly and easily change between seat styles without removal of the rear mudguard, thus allow us to change the look of these bikes as we wish.

I bought two (even though I've got a SpeedMaster with my OEM mid ship mounting hardware.) The OEM design is a PITA!

Fantastic! Although it only looks like a white nylon type plastic. I'll be ordering one.

There is one other option that I have not seen on here. When I got my speedy it came with a standard seat set from an america as a spare and a gunfighter installed. However the Speedy seat is held on with only the rear screw. I have noticed that the pull cable for the center post is rubbing on the fender paint, but if that was all removed I dont see why you even need the center pin. I have had no issues so far with mine ( I will be upgrading to a Corbin Gunfighter soon so wont modify my stock seat ) Mark
