http://www.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/50071POLICE sniffer dogs trained to spot terrorists at railway stations may no longer come into contact with Muslim passengers – after complaints that it is against the suspects’ religion. A report for the Transport Department has raised the prospect that the animals should only touch passengers’ luggage because it is considered “more acceptableâ€. In the Muslim faith, dogs are deemed to be spiritually “uncleanâ€. But banning them from touching passengers would severely restrict their ability to do their job. The report follows trials of station security measures in the wake of the 2005 London suicide bomb attacks. In one trial, some female Muslims said the use of a body scanner was also unacceptable because it was tantamount to being forced to strip. British Transport Police last night insisted it would still use sniffer dogs – which are trained to detect explosives – with any passengers regardless of faith, but handlers would remain aware of “cultural sensitivitiesâ€. Critics said the complaints were just the latest example of minority religions trying to force their rules and morals on British society. Tory MP Philip Davies said: “As far as I am concerned, everyone should be treated equally in the face of the law and we cannot have people of different religious groups laying the law down. I hope the police will go about their business as they would do normally.†News of the security setback came as the Government yesterday admitted that installing 100 per cent airport-style screening at rail and Tube stations was “not feasibleâ€.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Why would a sniffer dog have to touch anyone? Their sense of smell is 4000 times greater than ours, all they'd need is the scent not physical contact. I've been checked a lot over the years (both drug and bomb dogs) and it's always been a cardinal sin for handler to actually let any of the dogs make contact with any other person other than the handler.

And THUS, yet ANOTHER example of WHY there should ALWAYS BE a STRICT SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE BUSINESS in THIS country, known to some(myself included) as the "Good ol' U.S. of A", Larry ol' Boy!
BECAUSE...when people(as is human nature) "believe" that THEIR GOD imbues them with some "exceptional privileges" or "overpowering insights", NO MATTER if they are in the MAJORITY(perhaps "christian", maybe?!) or the MINORITY(perhaps "muslim", maybe?!), then sir, ANYBODY living in what could remotely be described as a "MODERN DEMOCRATIC and ENLIGHTENED SOCIETY" are ALL in friggin' TROUBLE!!!
Now, is there any other social phenomena which you'd care for me to explain to you, or this sounding a tad "Kalifornia elitist" to you already???
(...and people wonder why I like DOGS...trained to sniff for explosives or NOT...more than friggin' people!!!)

Airports here in the U.S. have signs posted prior to the security screening stations which state that persons refusing to be screened will not be allowed past the security point. It doesn't say they will be arrested or harrassed or singled out. Simply that they won't be allowed past security. It's their option and their choice to make.
This is as good an example as one could make of a 12th century culture in a 21st century world trying to force the majority's calendar back to meet the standards and demands of a minority.
There might not be as large a need to be as security conscious as we have to be these days if fanatics and zealots of a certain minority culture were not so resolved to visit indescriminate violence on the public at large.
Perhaps a more appropriate form of transportation for those who do not wish to violate their religious laws could be made available. I might just go into the camel business...
To paraphrase the sage words of Triumph, the comic dog, 'I poop on your silly laws!'

Hey, I've got a new religion, come join me! To spiritually rinse myself of constant contamination by "unclean" persons allowed to exist around me, I have to drink beer each hour I am awak. Since this is part of my religion, and to block my doing so would constitute religious persecution, so I can do so while operating motor vehicles, working and attending sporting events even at stadiums where alcohol is prohibited. Beer is the "spirit water" my religion holds most sacred. Also, tofu is considered the "food of evil", so any mention of it must be stricken, whether public or private, written or spoken. aggghhhh!!!! If you don't like non-Muslim Western society and our "norms", then stay in your own Islamic-centric countries!! Let's line everything we can with pig skin! Airline seats done in pig leather so no Islamic terrorist will ride the plane (or bus, or taxi, or train). I am a very tolerant person, but this is ridiculous. Go to an Islamic country and see how much tolerance they have for you not following their customs, or, rather, RELIGIOUS LAWS. It's western custom that dogs are "OK" and can sniff you!! Get it! So now the police K9 units have to ask a fleeing criminal if it is religiously acceptable for them to sick the dog on them before doing so?!? We have to STOP BENDING OVER. If you come to our Western nation, live by our conventions, or don't come! Do what you want behind your own doors and we don't care, but stop telling the rest of us what we can do or not do IN PUBLIC for PUBLIC SAFETY!

No I'm not, Larry! Think about what I said there! The whole idea that some people consider themselves Christian/Muslim/Jewish first and American and/or whatever their nationality is, second, basically defies the idea of "the common social good in their State, because NOW they have a "reason" for pressing their beliefs, and the subsequent results of those beliefs, upon the rest of the society in question.
And if you'd give me juuuuuuust a minute here, I'm ABSOLUTELY SURE that I could think of "a few" instances in this country where while they "may not be" as an immediate threat to life and liberty as scearching for a potential bomb under burka might be, they STILL undercut the idea of an inclusive "common good" in the long run.
And so, while I wish everybody well in their endevours to find "peace and contentment" while utilizing whatever "belief system" they choose in private, it seldomly if ever has a useful purpose out in the public arena other than to separate us into different, and often fearful, camps.
(and as you may have noticed, this very thread is almost solely about "fearful camps")

The 12th century part I can agree with, the minority is incorrect as that particular religion is over 1/6th of the world's population and as large if not larger than the most popular Western religion, which is also about 1/6th of the planet. Pretty much equal footing and one reason a sensible solution should be sought; there are enough of us on both sides to wipe each other out.

Didn't they cause this search thing to begin with? It's easer to stop something you don't start in the first place. IMHO., They should search THEM two or three times just to make sure.

I don't know why not, the Supreme Court just decided enemy combatants should have lawyers. Next thing you know our troops will have to read them their rights before returning fire. The Brits are a few years ahead of us in the area of suicidal pandering but we’re working mightily to catch up and surpass them.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Sorry Dwight kalifornia cant take credit for the seperation of church and sate Idea, sombosdy thought of that a long time ago. All devout Christians I might add.
But keep also in mind all the laws that make us a civilized people, Are based on the Judeo-Christian ethic.
Mr. President
To messers Nehemiah Dodge, Ephraim Robbins, & Stephen S. Nelson a committee of the Danbury Baptist association in the state of Connecticut.
Gentlemen
The affectionate sentiments of esteem & approbation which you are so good as to express towards me, on behalf of the Danbury Baptist association, give me the highest satisfaction. my duties dictate a faithful & zealous pursuit of the interests of my constituents, and in proportion as they are persuaded of my fidelity to those duties, the discharge of them becomes more & more pleasing.
Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man & his god, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state. [Congress thus inhibited from acts respecting religion, and the Executive authorised only to execute their acts, I have refrained from presenting even occasional performances of devotion presented indeed legally where an Executive is the legal head of a national church, but subject here, as religious exercises only to the voluntary regulations and discipline of each respective sect.] Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.
I reciprocate your kind prayers for the protection and blessing of the common Father and creator of man, and tender you for yourselves and your religious association, assurances of my high respect & esteem.
(signed) Thomas Jefferson Jan.1.1802.

The Brits have been in our news with this kind of stuff a lot lately. (National Public Radio) Last week, Christian evangilists were warned to "stay out of MUSLIM AREAS "(The east side) because the cops WOULD NOT guantee their safety. These people were handing out pro Christian leaflets. Adjoining this area are a few Christian churches, a couple of centuries old, that regularly have their congregation harrassed and the windows in their church broken. By Muslims. The British government seem to be running scared of the small, radical Muslims in their country, and are willing to suspend free speech and civic protection to appease them.

Why sho'nough Lester, I'd sho'nough like to hear y'all's thoughts about this! Why wouldn't I?
And to answer your question about if I'm "taking sides" about this, well...the "side" I'm taking here is the "side" that says if you want the freedom to believe YOUR religious beliefs in this country, then just because they are in the majority that "maybe" they shouldn't have any more influence in the public domain and thus either become the "law of the land" or the generally accepted "norm" over those who base their beliefs are in the minority belief system, OR no belief system at all(as y'all could probably tell, THAT'S ME, and which I'm more and more PROUD of every friggin' day and every friggin' single time I read about people claiming that their belief system makes them "more righteous" than others, like I'm "a guessin'" these Muslim women think they think they are because they're soooooo "devout") and thus do not feel that they have to follow the law of the land!
And SOOOOOO....I say....I DON'T CARE IF YOUR BELIEFS TELL YOU THAT "DOGS ARE UNCLEAN", LADIES!!! HERE COMES ROVER!!! LIVE WITH IT!!!
And I'm ALSO saying....KEEP THY RELIGION TO THYSELF IN ALL ASPECTS REGARDING THE PUBLIC DOMAIN...AND THAT INCLUDES WHEN IT COMES TO MAKING ANY PROSPECTIVE LAWS WHOSE PRIMARY "RATIONALE" IS BASED ON SOME BELIEF SYSTEM!!!
Now, I hope that 'splains my position here y'all!!!
(hmmmmm...I wonder if I've just lost the Bible Belt's support here???)

Time to "out" Dwight's modus operandi: he surveys a given thread, determines who the largest blowhard is, takes the opposing viewpoint regardless of actual personal beliefs and does his best to out blowhard that person. Sometimes he gets a real live one (::cough::Kevin::cough) and it goes on forever. And sometimes his caps lock key sticks...

And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams

Very very incisive there, John! You've got my modus operandi down cold there, dude! And of course this M/O is that I ALWAYS like to point out to people that there are TWO or MORE ways to look at any particular "bone of contention", and that there are usually UNDERLYING CAUSES to these differences of opinion that most people seldomly wish to admit to. (and for "some reason" this method somehow seems to be a "stretch" for a whole lot o' people a whole lot of the time)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I had a go at posting 3 - 4 times but each time I thought ... "this will get nuked as soon as I hit the enter button" so I bit my tongue.
If only everyone thought that way, eh?

Time to "out" Dwight's modus operandi: he surveys a given thread, determines who the largest blowhard is, takes the opposing viewpoint regardless of actual personal beliefs and does his best to out blowhard that person. Sometimes he gets a real live one (::cough::Kevin::cough) and it goes on forever.
And sometimes his caps lock key sticks... let me fess up to everyone, and dwight, i was just spoofing dwight,,,couldn't help myself,,,he's SO EASY!!!!!

I review the threads and figure out who the largesse moderator is and "out" them ...as though they need it and move on. Dwight and I are simply opposite ends of the political bookend. He is the loud mouthed antagonistic anti-american pro left wing religion hating keith olberman of this arena and I am quite simply "The Entire FOX News Network"
"Proud to be an Infidel" ... "100% pure American Jingoist"

dwight,,,,, has it ever occurred to you,,, that your religion is your own opinion?????? sometimes folks can get so caught up their own b.s.,,, that they have no tolerance for anyone's else's. this is wrote very humbly, not antaganistic at all,,,your'e certainly entitled to your opinion. it just seems that every time someone posts something about a higher diety,,,you go off.. "iron sharpens iron"

Lester I agree with you!!! ALMOST totally! BUT, please read(or RE-read as the case may be) my last post to our "fine patriotic"...no...make that "SUPER patriotic" fellow Kevin, when I said it was NOT ME who started this basically..."Don't those crazy Muslims and their ways just p*ss you off"...thread, and started "throwing stones at OTHER PEOPLES religious beliefs!!!
MY PURPOSE here was to POINT OUT to those who WOULD DO exactly THAT, that they would better serve their "belief system" if they would first LOOK INSIDE THEMSELVES before they picked up that friggin' stone!!!
Basically it's a "counterpoint", and as you may have noticed I tend to be, as Friar John noted, a "contrarian" by nature, and mainly because when I see somebody trying to incite others to FEAR or HATE others, my FIRST MOVE is usually to say..."Hey people, let's look at this situation objectively and from all sides BEFORE we do something rash!"
