I live in Boston....I was sold a California model Speedmaster.
Make sense so far? Well, it doesn't make sense to ME either. LOL

Anyway, I'm going to remove it. I have 2 questions for anyone who might be able to help.

1) Number 19 goes from the tank vent hose, through the tip over valve and to one of the canisters. Can I just let that one hang in the breeze? (I would think so)

2)Number 14 says it goes to the carb....is that the left side of the Left carb? If possible does anyone have a picture or maybe if someone with a NON California model could snap a picture of the left carb.

Tony, I have no freaking idea....but I was wondering what kinda bracketing holds that on and where it bolts to...do you got any pics of that area?

You wanna part with those brackets once you get them off?

Lift bike, remove bolts and hoses. Disconnect cannon plug (hide it) and remove tubes. Go ride. Remember to plug FOUR ports on the carbs and run your tank vent tube without pinching it off to the bottom of bike....Extremely easy job.

skydiver.....I understand what you mentioned completely. I still would like to know where on the carb the number 14 goes.

20 is to the front of the R carb....11 goes to both sides of the carb to the rear......19 goes to the tip over valve.

14 is connected to the smaller canister that is tucked up pretty high under the bike....if someone could give me a heads up on where exactly it connects to carb I'd appreciate it. It's in a tough spot to go tugging on it.

The "4 holes" that you think need to be plugged isn't the whole story. There are only 3 that I can see on the carbs that can be plugged from the system.

The front Left side manifold vent point is already capped from the IA kit.

(don't think you'd need a jack this)

I can't believe that someone here has not removed the California set up. LOL

I capped off 14,11,11 and 20.....I removed the vent hose (19). That disconnects the ENTIRE system.

The bike does NOT start. I repeat, "Huston we have a problem".

If you cap off everything undo the tank vent hose (like stated above and by a few people) you HAVE to attach the small canister (number 2) and keep it attached to "T" bracket between the carbs. That is where it runs to.

the number 14 runs to a plastic "T" between both carbs.

Does non California bikes have the small canister marked 2 above?

You have to leave the port where 14 plugged in open.
I put a small fuel filter on it to keep crap out.

Just got on. I did this about three months ago after four years. I would have told you to just take everything hooked to the system off, and cap the open ports on the carbs and manifolds (except the one between the carbs). If you know where one end is, the other is easy to find, just tug.

You might want to secure the vent hose with a zip tie, but just point it down somewhere.

You need to leave the vent hose attached to the tank. Do not plug the tank vent or it won't run. Don't pinch the vent hose, or it won't run.

Also, I got about a four mpg increase after removing the crap

Big bill, can I leave the T connector attached to the small canister and then just plug up one of the other holes in the canister? I would expect that the the small canister will act as a sort of a small filter like you did.

OH--btw...when I said I removed the vent hose I meant that I removed it from the system and let it flow downward.

Can ANYONE answer the question about the T connector between the carbs? Does every bike have it? If so, what is it attached to?

I will look for an inline filter for it but I'll see if the small canister will do the same funtion first.

In the following picture is a the black plastic T connector that is between the carbs. I see Dinqua's has a small hose clamp on it. I would like to know where that hose runs on the NON Cali models.

I will probably go with bigbill's suggestion (as it makes most sense) but I would like to know what that does and where it is routed on the "normal" bikes.



btw-I am not talking about the piece that is indicated with an arrow in the picture....I am talking about the black T that is between the carbs....Dinqua has a small brass clamp on the tube that I'm talking about.
