Well, when I went to work last night, I found out that my Supervisor was going to be out for a while. He had a 1 year old Honda ST1300 that He averaged about 500 miles per week on ( he was a member of the iron but association ) Well, I guess that Saturday he was on his way in to work and some idiot in a pickup was too his left, decided he wanted to be in the right lane and moved over right into him. They say that the guy basically ran him right over ( rear tire ) well, he came out with 2 broken ribs, and a broken Clavical ) and it split his helmet into 2 pieces. I can just imagine if he hadnt been wearing one. Glad I finally started wearing one all the time now. He's a tough cookie though, he cant wait to get back to work. I just hope that this didnt end his riding. Mark ( hmmm if only he had my Scepters on that Honda!!! )

We need to find a way to hook up proximity radar to the Nautilus air horn . But then , some ijits just change lanes so fast it wouldn't matter .

And some of them are so busy talking on the phone they don't hear the Stebel horns and exhaust together. I almost had a similar thing happen to me.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Tell that to my late friend Joanie Orban who was decapitated by her helmet. Those things save some and kill others in about even numbers.

500 mile a week and Iron Butt...yeah he'll ride again. Broken ribs are just an inconveinance. But he'll be sleeping sitting up for a while.Clavecals take forever to heal right though.
Ya know in this case the sceptres could have helped I think. I had a kid on sportbike blow by me on the right, while I was stopped waiting to turn left.He went past me and the 2 cars behind.I never saw or heard him till he was gone.
I hope your friend was not trying to passs the pickup on the right. Thats an illeagal move in Konnektikut and could cloud the issue of who was at fault.

Dont really know any more about what happened yet. As far as passing on the right. If the vehicle on the left is not doing the speed limit then I think that would be a moot point ( see that all the time here in new mexico ) heck there are people that actually drive around with certificates on their cars that even state they are uninsured! That is how bad this place can get! Talk about a backwards society. Mark

And ya know, you "might be right" AFTERALL, GB!!! Seems I heard somewhere that ALL the sanctioning bodies in motorcycle racing are now considering leaving it all up to the riders if they want to wear a helmet or NOT!!!
Yep! Seems there's some "statistics" out there that severe blunt force head trauma is, as you said, "a 50/50 proposition AT BEST" with OR WITHOUT a helmet on, alright!!!
(uh HUH...thaaaaaaaat's right...makes "sense" to me...uh huh....suuuuuuuuuure!)

Now Jim! Is that any way to talk about where Mark's supervisor crashed....the streets of Albuquerque, New Mexico???!!!
OH! WAIT a minute! MAYBE you meant "the death zones" are RACETRACKS, huh?!
Well...considering that all it takes is a 10mph blow to the head to cause severe cranial trauma and/or DEATH(which BTW, I CAN supply you with the stats regarding this little phenomenon), I'm a guessin' "anybody"(meaning ME) who knows this fact "might have" misunderstood your reference to "the death zone" and "might'a supposed" that you meant ANYWHERE out there, and NOT just the racetrack, HUH?!
(ya know folks, I may NEVER get ANYBODY to see the LOGIC in wearin' a friggin' helmet 'round here, but I SURE DO LIKE usin' this here language in these here apparently futile attempts o' mine anyway...and BESIDES, I make sooooooo many "friends" doin' this TOO, ya know...BUT, ya think I CARE???!!!)

I'm glad your boss will live to ride again. As for helmets I think everyone should use or not use what they are comfortable with. I think vigilance and awareness of your ever-changing surroundings is your best weapon against ignorant cagers.

Moral of the story is, " don't ride in other drivers blind spot". Either pull up past him or if your in heavy trafic, drop back so if he pulls over he doesn't hit you. This same thing happened to me last week. Only the kid that was driving and didn't see me, pulled over all the way to the right hand turn lane from the left. I was back about four feet and he went right buy. It was darn close though and caused a very severe pinch factor.

An excellent reminder Chip!! I pass at WOT as far over as I can safely get, and never ride in a blind spot, or even next to them where they should see me.
Great advice, pass or drop back.

...OR....as Big Chief No Helmet might have said(who ironically was clipped by a Cadillac Escalade while crossing Arizona Hwy-89 on his "iron horse"(an old beat up BSA Victor) right outside Cameron on his way to the casino one glorious day)..."OUCH! Head is split open and me think me dying, and so, it is good day to die!"(just before he did...how "noble", HUH?!)

Now wait a minute here, big guy!!!
If I remember correctly, Klingons "believe" in a fatalistic philosophy!!!(at least according to a certain Mr. Roddenberry, I hear anyway!)
And so, how in the universe can you even THINK that I, Dwight, could conceivably be a friggin' KLINGON, when you HAVE to know by now that I believe that everybody makes their OWN fate, because they either use that organ nettled betwix and between their friggin' ears, or they DON'T!!!
OR, as Calvin...Calvin COLLIDGE that is...might have said in January 1929, "Here ya go Herbert! I'm handin' this whole overly speculative and poorly regulated Market over to you now! So keep it goin', kid!"
(yeah, I know Bill...THAT was one weird segue, wasn't it?!...but hey, the way I figure it, a Calvin Coolidge reference is always good for a laugh or two...at LEAST a lot more than JOHN Calvin ever is anyway!!!)

Well, I finally have the full story. Straight from the horses mouth on what happened. My boss was in the left lane and attempting to pass a city garbage truck when the truck moved into his lane without using any signal lights ( verified by the 4 witnesses that stopped to help ) This was all at about 50 miles per hour. He split his helmet open on the truck itself. and Broke his left Clavical and ribs when he hit the ground. The truck driver supposedly received 2 citations, one for failure to yield right of way and I dont know what the other one was. ( he thinks it was wreckless driving ) Well, theres one city employee that will probably be losing their job! Mark

Most Americans are brazenly rude and inconsiderate when it comes to Native Americans and their culture. Ignorance is the main culprit but persistence of stereotypes through the media helps these views to remain in the popular culture.
