Call me a limp wristed swishy boy if you like, but I LOVE French Vanilla fru-fru creamer! For a long time, there was an 'urban legend' about how Starbucks corporate didn't support the troops deployed to OIF and OEF. While I was in the sandbox, our unit recieved several CARE packages from individual Starbucks store employees with WAY more coffee and supplies than we could ever drink. Maybe Starbucks corporate HQ didn't get directky involved, but I will NOT denigrate Starbucks, simply because of the generosity of SOMEONE who thought enough of us to take the time and effort to send us something which took the edge off our not being at home.

Their company has some sort of corporate policy prohibition on "give aways" so their management decided to up the employee freebies and then vigorously encourage them to send that to our deployed forces as a workaround.

That's simply not true. I could care less where people buy or drink their coffee, but my wife has worked for Starbucks for 12 years. They are one of the most generous corporations I have ever seen. Having worked for several different corporations, I am constantly shocked at the amount of community support and donations made by Starbucks. My wife personally authorized a huge box of goods for deployed troops, and partners could add their weekly pound of coffee if they wanted. She donates large cambros of brewed coffee for events almost weekly. They match partner donations to charities, send workers on habitat for humanity, pledge money for things like walk for the cure. I did a charity walk with my wife, and they paid her hourly wage per mile for her, me, and our 1yr old daughter! There was a group of @ 250 just from local stores, and their families. That's a pretty big give away just for showing up and walking 3 miles.
Another thing that is rarely seen is their support of part time workers. Not only in higher wages, they pay medical benefits, give them stock and vacation too. Usually if you are 20hrs a week...you get an hourly wage, period.
Now this is coming from someone who sits in an independently owned coffee shop every morning, but Starbucks bashing is just cliche. All Triumphs leak oil, Sportsters are girls bikes...

But then, at 6 bucks and up for a 50 cent cuppa, they can afford it. I don't have anything against the company, other than thinking the way they tried to have a store within 30 feet of every person in America was not very smart and the fact that I can't stand the taste and smell of their coffee.

It's all good. I like my straight coffee and I like my mint mochas. But the former is FAR cheaper and I certainly don't stop by the local coffee shack everyday.

I used to get a choice in my Cafe. You could have Tea OR coffee. Sometimes ou could chose what kinda coffee you wanted, black or white. Tea with or without T-bag left in. Much as I like fresh ground coffee, I get a little overwelmed by the long list of different coffees on offer and I kinda feel a bit outa place. I just want a coffee flavoured coffee, never seems to be met with much enthusiasm.

I am corrected, even though I was attempting to compliment Starbucks for being clever and supportive of our deployed men and women. You, in turn, need to correct this entry http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/starbucks.asp at snopes.com. Usually, snopes is a very dependable debunker of urban legends.
