Hi all, I've just come back from a 3 day ride covering 1400k's and I have to admit my new SS pipes were just too loud for ME. I now want to look at putting more wrapping around the baffles and remember seeing a post recently where this was explained and had pics as well. Would someone please give me a link to this post as it would just make it easier, rather than my having to re-invent the wheel. Btw, other posts suggest wrapping 4 stroke fibreglass packing around the existing packing and using wire to hold it in place. Does that sound right. Anyway, hopefully someone will direct me to the link and I can go from there. Thanks in advance. Staffo

I removed the stock backing and replaced it with Moose brand packing that was probably meant for a sport bike. Anyway, I used twice as much packing as was originally around the baffle which barely fit back into the pipe so I omitted wire or tape to hold it in place and it mellowed the exhaust note a bit but I don't think it really reduced the overall volume so much. Then again, I always wear earplugs so it's not a problem with me but my guess is that they're still pretty loud.
I'm tempted to try a find a longer baffle to see how that works into the mix since there is plenty of pipe left to run an extended baffle.

A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

I repacked my T-Bike pipes a year ago using the Moose packing - same as Pat. Only difference is I used SS picture hanging wire (K-Mart) to secure them. No biggie, but it may last longer than regular steel wire.

Here's another approach: Machinery bushings, self tapping screws, & hardware cloth. It's a tinkerable quick change setup. 1/4" hardware cloth is pictured here. I'm currently running two layers, 1/4, & 1/8, rotated 45 degrees. There were no jetting changes with the original 1/4" stuff. Adding the 1/8" required going from 45 to 42 pilots.
Said Molly to James, that's a fine motorbike.

I think what I'm going to do is, take off the SS pipes and put back on my Tors. I'll put the 40 pilots back and change jets to 145's which I've ordered from Brent. Once the bike is fine again and I can hear myself think . Actually they're not that bad with ear plugs but I also like to listen to music etc and I can't with these pipes. Anyway, moving on, I'll have a look at the SS pipes for re-packing or whatever. Otherwise I'll sell them cos they are still brand new, and eventually if I feel like it the Staintunes which are ADR (Australia design rule) compliant but you can also take out a baffle. At $1400 they are 3 times more expensive than others though
