G'day, I'm new here on the bonnevilleamerica forum. I'm located 'Down Under' - in South Australia, and I'm looking for some feedback. I currently ride a Kawasaki GTR 1000 (Concours), and I've ridden the Bonneville America(solo). I loved the ride but I'm concerned about the bikes ability to do long distances two up (with luggage). Any feedback would be appreciated. Cheers, Nobby.

Welcome to the site. All Depends what you call long distance? The UK is just a tad smaller than Aus, but I can regularly do 300 mile trips with no drama. Send a pm to Grzegorz, he regularly rides from the UK to Poland and back. Buy one and you won't regret it

Hey Pony, thanks - you're right - I guess 'long distance' is relative. My longest day this year was 1200km, but that is unusual. My day rides are usually 400km, but I do a few trips a year where i like to cover about 600km a day for about a week at a time. Here in Australia, there is a lot of space - with not much in between!! Nobby

Long distance x Two up x Fully loaded = No problem.

Welcome aboard Nobby. You won't have any problems with an America. Solid motorcycle all the way.
2005 America, green/gray, gutted stock pipes, tall sissy bar w/ luggage rack, Saddleman's dual touring seat and Tourmaster saddlebags (and sissybar bag).

Welcome Nobby! One up or Two up long hauls are not an issue.

Riding with a passenger and luggage, you might want to limit your cruising speed to 160KPH, but You shouldn't have any mechanical worries. These bikes are built like tractors. It would be a good idea for the sake of your passenger to consider one of the many touring style seats available if you plan to use the bike for extended holiday riding. The front seat is just fine but (I am told) the pillion tends to seem a bit harsh after 4 hours or so.

From my experience of Aussie roads they are mainly limited to 120kph anyway - and every police car in NSW has a speed camera.... (I did the Pacific Highway Sydney - Brisbane and back via some other roads inland last year....on a Speedmaster! )
If you are going touring, or regularly going 2 up, get the America. The new pillion seat is the upgraded one, and apparntly is a whole lot better than the ones on the 06 and previous. And a sissy bar....is not just good for the passenger, is good for tying stuff to! But get one with a rack.

03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel...
06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel...
09 America - It's very blue....

I ride two up all the time. My fat rear and my stuff.
You might need to upgrade the seating though. But try it out first.

I thought the mud wrestling last week with Binky was pretty dramatic mate!

Yeah. That "sounded" pretty good there, Mark!
So tell us...why is it that you STILL can't seem to master a friggin' AMERICAN accent after all this time here, HUH?!

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

The America's are fine for long distance, Nobb. Just got back from Florida, from Iowa. U.S. Total distance- 3600 miles. Two up, 60 pounds of gear, 80 miles per hr. No problem.

LOL... love the Aussie accents going on here Sounds like everyone has been listening to Casey Stoner on the winners podium!! Thanks to all for the responses, it has put my mind at rest about the TBA's two up ability. Oh, and btw - thanks for the welcome, it's been great. Nobby

Warnings
* Don't narrow your mouth too much when you say words like 'shark' or 'chance'. The resulting sound may make you sound like a South African. Don't think that you'll get it right quickly either, it is likely that any true British person will know that you're faking it straight away, but it might pass for a real accent to non-'Brits'
