i need to get my valves adjusted or checked for the 12000 mile service, about how much will it cost, and how long should it take? I dont have the tools to do it so I am taking it to the dealer. Also how important is it to get the brake fluid changed at the service? I was also thinking about getting the carbs synched but the bike runs perfect so I dont know if I will get that done. I guess I should also get the bearings checked and lubed in the steering neck. I will be changing the oil and doing the rest of the stuff myself, thanks for your help and any advice---cliff

I assume you'll be taking it to Hermy's. While I've never been there, I have only heard good things about them, even from my dealer.

I just had a 25000 mile service done, which includes all of what you mention and more, and it was less than $200. But my dealer takes care of me and I sing his praises to anyone who asks.. The bike has to sit overnight (be cold) for an accurate valve adjustment, so how long it takes will depend on how busy they are beyond that. Mine was done in a few hours the next day.

Call them up - see what they want. If it seems high, by all means repost and you'll get lots of stories.

My personal reasoning is to give them enough business and money when necessary to maintain a good relationship. They aren't there to make friends - that's just a side benefit.

If you want to balance your carbs - let me know. I have a Morgan Carbtune you can borrow. You'll just have to pay to ship it back to me.

I thought it would be way more than $200 dollars, for that price i'll just let them do the whole thing. I change my oil and plugs, ect but didnt feel comfortable with trying the valves. I get my stuff at Hermys and bought the bike there and I never had any problems with them so thats not the issue, thanks for the reply---if they dont do the carbs with the service maybe i'll borrow the balancer and try it, thanks cliff

anytime you mess with either the carbs or the valves you have to re balance the carbs. Axiom number 1. The normal price is closer to 4 bills.

Like I said, call them and ask them first. I wouldn't be surprised if it was around $400....
