Motorcycles will get new onboard warning systems to tell the rider when he's going too fast under proposals announced in Brussels today.

The technology will tell the rider when he's going into a bend too fast or exceeding the speed limit. A 'frontal collision warning' system will detect when the bike is too close to an obstacle.

On-road trials of the technology will begin by 2010 under the European Commission's plans, which are backed by the Federation of European Motorcyclists Associations.

The project, called Saferider, was unveiled at a motorcycle safety conference in Brussels this afternoon. Its aim is to "design and develop Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and In-Vehicle Information Systems" for motorcycles.

What a joke!!! I dont know what it is like in Europe, But I know the most dangerous thing in my neighborhood for riding is the dam Cagers that dont look! There are a lot of idiots in big steel boxes that just dont get it. Many should have their right to drive taken away!

I don't know why they don't just go to the next logical step. I'm thinking about the taxi cab in The Fifth Element. It monitors your speed at all times and whenever you go over the speed limit anywhere it just debits your bank account the fee. I mean, that's where it's going, right?

the Tech to do just what you say is out there now.

Already covered - in the case of cornering too fast, it's your sphincter, and the speedometer handles the speed limit issues??

They are still talking about doing something similar to that here in Oregon.

There already capable with any vehicle that has O.B.D.II. It has a transponder that can communicate with any cell phone tower. They have already tried to pass a clean air act, where they would query your car or bike for emitions and send you a ticket if you’re out of spec.

They get all this stuff going under the guise of SAFTY!? i.e., On-Star, our sensors have detected an air bag deployment, we're sending help. In reality it’s BIG BROTHER.
